1848-C Liberty Quarter Eagle. Winter Variety 2 (10-F). Die State III. AU-58 (NGC). This late die state example was struck from a heavily buckled obverse die that imparted a swelled, overall soft appearance to the central obverse and also effaced virtually all of the definition to the eagle's head on the reverse. The balance of the latter side is suitably bold, however, and neither side reveals much in the way of actual wear. Satiny green-gold surfaces are also free of a significant number of abrasions.
