From the Sig and Louise Collection In 1853, in an effort to keep silver coinage circulating state side, the mint reduced the weights of silver coins. This change was denoted by Arrows placed at the date, and a spray of rays on the reverse. Prior to this change, 44,000 quarters were struck, most disappearing into circulation. High grade survivors are RARE, and even in VF grades, it is a very scarce issue! This is a great collector grade! There is a wealth of surviving detail. The eye appeal is exceptional despite some ancient marks from circulation and quite nice for the VF grade. PCGS 4, NGC 2. No VF25 has ever sold in auction. A PCGS VF20, sold in August 2015 for $2,115 and the current CU value in 25 is $2,950. These mid-range circulated examples RARELY come up for sale, so do not let this opportunity pass you by! Cert.
