- THE B.S.T. COLLECTION Among the HIGHEST GRADED examples of this early Seated Liberty quarter date. The quality and eye appeal are off the charts AMAZING in every way! No wonder this coin was at one time graded MS66 by NGC. Brilliant antique silver centers are infused with pale golden overtones, deepen to a mottled blue and honey-gold at the rims. Struck from an early die state with remnants of the die polishing lines are seen in the fields, creating a semi-reflective lustrous brilliance that sets the entire surface aglow on both sides. The devices are sharply struck and warmly frosted, creating a decent contrast between the devices and the fields. A strong glass reveals scattered "ticks and giggles" that are so insignificant we almost made no mention of them. The eye appeal is incredible! Ex Superior, July 2003, lot 1114; Oliver Jung Collection; American Numismatic Rarities' sale of the Oliver Jung Collection, July 2004, lot 50; Superior Galleries' sale of the Good River Collection, May 2006, lot 415; Stack's sale of November 2006, lot 111; Ira and Larry Goldberg, February 2007, lot 1351; Heritage's sale of the Scott Rudolph Collection, January 2009, lot 3739 (as NGC MS66); D. Brent Pogue Collection, Stack's Bowers, Part V, March 2017, lot 5020; our consignor, via Legend Numismatics. PCGS 1, NGC 0, CAC 1. This coin sold for $39,950 in March 2017 and before that, it brought $63,250 in 2009 as an NGC MS66. PCGS has graded a trio finer, the top of the pop represented by the MS66+ ex Gardner coin that brought $64,625 in April 2015. Bound for another world class type set or Seated Liberty quarter collection. We have no doubt the published levels for this grade will be surpassed when this GEM crosses the block. Cert. Number 6936172 PCGS # 5392
