- A very rare coin in mint state, and this coin is in the top 8 examples graded by PCGS, and one of five mint state coins approved by CAC. Satiny mint frost catches the light just right and shows light champagne-gold on the obverse and pleasing sky-blue and champagne-tan on the reverse. Mostly fully struck, but with some hints of weakness as usually seen, particularly on the lower right portion of the wreath. A very scarce Civil War era coin, and this one was miraculously saved from the ravages of the war, and wild west commerce. PCGS 3, NGC 4, CAC 2. PCGS has graded only 4 coins higher. This coin brought $9,106 in our September Regency Sale. The PCGS Price Guide lists MS63 at $9,000 and MS64 at $15,000. With the Simpson and Gardner sets of Seated Dimes now dispersed, it may be a very long time until another PCGS-certified Mint State example of this date appears.
