1853 Round 25 Cents. BG-215. Rarity-7-. Liberty Head. AU-58 (PCGS). Flint-gray and medium honey colors blend over both sides of this handsome near-Mint example. Boldly defined for the issue with impressively smooth surfaces that are free of troublesome marks. This rare issue is attributed to Frontier, Deviercy & Co., and features the same obverse as the firm's BG-214 issue. On the reverse the date is jauntily askew within the wreath, similar to BG-214, but from a different die with the 4 in the denomination thin, nearly devoid of its bottom support, and leaning crazily to the viewer's left. BG-215 was discovered by Jay Roe in 1978 and published in Lee in 1979. Only a dozen examples of the variety were listed in Bob Leonard's census in 2003, likely duplication explaining PCGS' estimate of 10 to 12 known.
