详细说明: 1842-D Liberty Half Eagle. Large Date. VF-35 (PCGS). OGH. warm, even, khaki-gold patina with ample boldness of detail throughout the design. The strike must have been well above average by Dahlonega Mint half eagle standards for the coin to still present this sharp at the Choice VF grade level, although we do see some wispy hairlines to the surfaces that point to an old, light cleaning. There are no singularly distracting abrasions, however, and the in-hand appearance is quite pleasing in a circulated D-mint five from the 1840s. Much rarer than its identically dated Small Date counterpart, the 1842-D Large Date is actually the second rarest Dahlonega Mint half eagle. Of this issue Doug Winter (2003) states: ""This is a truly rare coin which still does not receive the attention it merits.""
