- 1825 Classic Head Half Cent. C-2. Rarity-1. MS-64 BN (PCGS). Hard satin surfaces are toned gold and sea-green iridescence across the high points, with considerable rose and faded orange luster clinging to the protected areas around the devices. Boldly defined from a well executed, nicely centered strike, this handsome Choice example would do equally well in a high quality type, date or variety set. Only 7 coins have been graded finer by PCGS. Cohen-2 shares its reverse with the C-1 die marriage of the 1825 half cent, the former variety identifiable by the centering of the lowest curl of the obverse portrait over the digits 25 in the date. Although the Mint produced only 63,000 half cents during calendar year 1825, additional coins of this date were almost certainly included in the 234,000-piece mintage reported for 1826.
