1808 Capped Bust Left Half Eagle. Miller-105/106, HBCC-3114, BD-3. Rarity-4. Normal 5D. AU-53 (PCGS). CAC. This is the clashed state of the die marriage (Miller-106), the reverse with fairly bold clashmarks (as strucK) from the obverse portrait encircling much of the eagle and bisecting the denomination 5D. Both sides retain much of the original satin luster, and overall sharp definition is also suggestive of a Choice AU grade. Scattered small and moderate size abrasions, however, confirm the AU-53 designation from PCGS. With even medium-gold color throughout. Although obtainable by early half eagle standards, the 1808 BD-3 die marriage is scarce in an absolute sense with probably fewer than 150 coins in numismatic hands.
