- 1787 Fugio Copper. Pointed Rays. Newman 8-B, W-6740. Rarity-3. UNITED STATES, 4 Cinquefoils. EF-45 (PCGS). Deep golden-tan throughout. Struck from heavily clashed dies. The surfaces are relatively hard with only natural flaws, as struck, the only distracting marks. The bottom of the obverse exhibits several diagonal fissures that engage the sundial and Ben Franklin's admonition to MIND / YOUR / BUSINESS, with a few other fissures seen, including one at the sun's rays and face at 12 o'clock. The reverse is less fissured than the obverse, with only light striations here and there, though we note weakness at the top of the design. Strong details remain, and the coin should be seen before bidding judgement is passed.
