- A Key Peso for the Philippines PHILIPPINES. Peso, 1906-S. San Francisco Mint. PCGS AU-55 Gold Shield. KM-168; Allen-16.08. Though featuring an original mintage of 201,000 pieces, most of this issue was immediately stored and never released due to the rising price of silver. Many were then later melted, making this date VERY RARE and desirable regardless of the grade. Given the attractive nature of the present example, it should no doubt elicit much interest and enthusiasm within the community. Little evidence of circulation, with a good deal of underlying luster and a charming tone. Estimate: $5,000 - $7,500. Provenance: From the Pasig River Collection.
