- 1864 Liberty Double Eagle. MS-61 (PCGS). A condition rarity in any mint state grade, with just a handful seen that have earned this level of preservation as seen by PCGS over the years. Notice the vibrant luster and handsome orange-gold hues on both sides. The strike is sharp too, as these coins tend to come this way when found new. Bagmarks exist, widely scattered and blend into the surfaces as well as these can, smaller ones on Liberty's cheek and neck, a few larger ones mixed into the fields as expected. Nevertheless, the eye appeal is high because of the luster and rich color. As a low mintage date, not many existed to begin with, and today their numbers have dwindled down to very few indeed. Most survivors show moderate to extensive circulation.
