Undated Round 50 Cents. BG-1079. Rarity-8. Liberty Head. AU Details--Repaired (PCGS). An exceedingly rare BG number, and a coin that presents quite well despite the stated qualifier. Both sides are curiously glossy in texture, true, but they have retoned quite nicely with iridescent salmon-pink and powder blue highlights to dominant honey-orange patina. The obverse portrait is lightly struck, typical of the variety, but otherwise we note bold to sharp detail. Free of sizeable marks with much to recommend it to the advanced California small denomination gold collector. This variety was previously attributed as BG-1313, but has since been reassigned to Period Two and given the new attribution BG-1079. The maker remains unknown. We are aware of only three specimens: 1 - Genuine (PCGS). Graded alternately as AU-50 Cleaned or MS-60 Cleaned by various catalogers.
