A well preserved near-GEM Proof that is totally original. Pale gold tone accents highly reflective mirrored fields and there are blue and amber-rose slashes seen at the peripheries. The reliefs are uniformly sharp and quite frosty. The fields show light lines when viewed under certain angles, but nothing too distracting, nor are they inappropriate for the assigned grade. While 1,330 were struck, only 527 were SOLD, thus the remaining Proofs were melted down at the mint. Of those that did sell, it is a certainty that some were spent during the turmoil of the Civil War that was to begin the following year. PCGS 43, NGC 39, CAC 12. The most recent sold for $7,200 in September 2018. The current Collectors Universe value is listed at $6,750. RARE FINER, this date is very popular as the last antebellum date. Cert. Number 32748577 PCGS # 7003.00
