- Crosby 1-B, W-1880. CONSTELLATIO is misspelled CONSTELATIO on this variety, the only die pair used to strike the blunt rays type. An early Confederation era copper coin that is an always popular type. Rarely seen in a problem free state, the surfaces of this lightly circulated example are hard and free of corrosion, pitting, or any other kind of environmental damage that often plague these coppers. The all seeing eye motif on the obverse surrounded by sun rays and a circle of 13 stars make up a wonderful metaphor of God's all seeing eye watching over this new nation (constellation) of 13 states. The patina is warm and even, the eye appeal is exceptional for an example of this type. PCGS 10, NGC 4, CAC 1. This coin last sold in November 2013 for $1,293 and the current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $1,300. What a neat type coin, worthy of any colonial or pre-federal copper type set. Cert.
