- 1795 Flowing Hair Silver Dollar. BB-27, B-5. Rarity-1. Three Leaves. VF-25 (PCGS). CAC.
Fully original with overall bold definition to the design, this piece exhibits silver-lilac and olive-gray patina that is boldest in the protected areas around the devices and along the denticles. Although a plentiful die pairing, this type is always in high collector demand. Liberty on the obverse is depicted with free flowing short hair, her eyes facing upwards to the right. The eagle is standing with his wings outstretched in an open wreath of olive branches with fruit. Three olive branch leaves are below his wings, in the area above the branch, and this defines the "Three Leaf" variety. Most die pairings of 1795 are of the Two Leaf style. In late 1795, a new type was launched for the silver dollar, that being the Draped Bust, Small Eagle design. This 1795 Flowing Hair dollar is an ever popular favorite with collectors for its short lived and classic Federal designs. BB Die State II.
