- 1878 Seated Liberty Half Dollar. Proof-65 Cameo (PCGS). CAC. Secure Holder. Halos of warm orange-olive and cobalt-blue iridescence ring the peripheries of this otherwise brilliant-white Gem. Solidly graded in all regards, both sides possess smooth-looking features and a boldly contrasted finish. Razor sharp in strike, this lovely specimen ranks among the finest-known survivors of the issue. A scarce proof Seated Half Dollar date, many examples of the 1878 are believed to have been melted in the Mint to provide bullion for the newly authorized Morgan Silver Dollar.
