- PORTUGAL. 50 Reis (Meio Tostao or 1/2 Toastao), ND (1686-88). Lisbon Mint. Peter II. PCGS EF-40 Gold Shield. KM-134; Gomes-26.01. Variety without stops flanking the florette below "XXXX". A wholesome and nicely struck example of this interesting little type coin displaying medium gray toning throughout. Initially issued by the Regulation of 9 September 1686 which authorized the issuance of 2 Vintens (XXXX Reis); the subsequent law of 4 August 1688 declared that their value would be inflated to 50 Reis (Meio Tostao or 1/2 Tostao).
