- 1853 Pattern Cent. Judd-150, Pollock-178. Rarity-7-. Proof-64 (PCGS). The obverse features the same design that the Mint used to strike regular issue 1853 Liberty Quarter Eagles. The reverse exhibits the denomination ONE CENT surrounded by a laurel wreath. Struck in German silver (30% nickel, 60% copper, 10% zinc) with a reeded edge. Thin planchet.<br /> A nicely reflective, silver-gray piece with a razor-sharp strike from rim-to-rim. The website uspatterns.com accounts for only about a dozen examples of the Judd-150 type in numismatic hands, a total that includes coins struck on both thick and thin planchets. The thin planchet pieces are a bit rarer.
