CHINA. 5 Ounce Silver Medal, 1987. Panda Series. NGC PROOF-67 ULTRA CAMEO. Bruce-MB13; PAN-66a. Struck for the Long Beach Numismatic & Philatelic Exposition. With case of issue, certificate of authenticity as well as some newspaper articles detailing the frenzy these show medals produced when first introduced in June of 1987. When the China mint had come to the show to distribute these medals the Long Beach Coin Show owner, Sam Lepresto, had special coupons made to be redeemed at the show so that the person presenting said coupon could claim one of these medals. As it turns out in promoting the show and specifically these medals someone had a brilliant idea to counterfeit these coupons which in turn created a shortage of the medals. Subsequently, Mr. Lepresto ended up ordering an extra 100 medals from the China mint. Mintage of 2,000 pieces, with 1,100 distributed in the USA and the remaining 900 distributed throughout the rest of the world. Click here for certification details from NGC. 1987年5盎斯銀章。熊貓系列。 長灘錢幣集郵博覽會紀念章。附原盒及證書，亦附有報章報導該紀念章首次於1987年6月面世時引起的轟動。當時中國鑄幣廠攜此紀念章參會，長灘錢幣展主辦者Sam Lepresto授意印製一種兌換券，持券者可在錢幣展中兌換一枚上述紀念章。該做法確實提高了錢幣展的知名度，但有人想辦法偽造了兌換券，使得紀念章供小於求，因此Lepresto先生只得再向中國鑄幣廠定制100枚。此紀念章共發行2000枚，1100枚分發在美國，其餘900枚散落世界各地。軼聞細節在所附剪報中有詳細描述。邊緣有薄薄一圈包漿，無朦朧或起霧。
