An incredible O-118a with a classic, old time look! Truly a marvelous GEM! An intense mint luster radiates boldly throughout both sides showing off the crisply struck devices. John Reich's design types are essentially full in definition, with nearly complete formation of Liberty's hair curls and eagle's feathers. The "a" model of the O-118 is a later die state with a crack on the tops of NITED STATES and ME in the reverse legend. There are no serious marks or signs of contact, even under the aid of a strong glass. A soft, powder-blue and tan-russet brown toning that is really brought to life by the vibrant satiny luster. The eye appeal is off the charts. PCGS 45, NGC 49, CAC 14. There are 5 in MS65+ and just a dozen graded finer. This is the most recent PCGS MS65+ CAC to sell in auction, which realized $8,700 in October 2019. Prior to that, this coin was in the 2016 ANA auction, as part of the Hamilton Collection, where it sold for $10,575. In 65+ the PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $12,500. RARE finer this is a great type or date representative! Cert. Number 1219923 PCGS # 6143.00
