- 1888-O Morgan Silver Dollar. VAM-1B4. Top 100 Variety. Very Late Die State. Scarface. MS-62 (NGC). Premium BU quality for this challenging Morgan dollar variety, both sides are ringed in intensely vivid reddish-orange and sunset-gold toning. Boldly to sharply struck with full frosty mint luster. The 1888-O VAM-1B variety takes its Scarface name from the pronounced die break that bisects Liberty's cheek. According to Morgan dollar variety experts Michael S. Fey and Jeff Oxman (The Top 100 Morgan Dollar Varieties: The VAM Keys, 1997), "The VAM-1B is the most dramatic die break in the Morgan dollar series. Rare in all grades." This is a particularly late die state example with the die beginning to shift into two planes along the break on Liberty's cheek. As one of the finest examples graded by NGC, this is a significant offering for to advanced silver dollar variety collectors. Provenance: From the Bimyway Collection.
