Ex Eliasberg and Pogue Collections as noted on the insert. With a provenance like Eliasberg and Pogue, you know this coin is going to be not just high grade, but also high end for the grade. This marvelous GEM is a Condition Census B-2, and would make a wonderful centerpiece to any early quarter set. Warm frosty luster rolls over clean fields and is enhanced by a pearlescent-gray toning scheme. The dove gray is soft and the luster accents whispers of icy blue, sea-foam green, and hearty gold tones that cling to the recesses. The device are sharply struck up, brought out to their finest advantage by an exacting blow from the dies, this includes all the underdigits in the date, which are bold and clear to the naked eye. We note a few tiny ticks, visible only with the aid of a strong glass, but they are totally irrelevant to the outstanding eye appeal of this GEM! From the Louis E. Brent Pogue Collection. Three die pairings were used to strike quarters dated 1825. Most scholars recognize them as 1825/2; 25/3 and 25/4, but of late, it was discovered that a leftover die from 1824/2 was used as well. Although the B-2 is considered the most common die pairing, this example can hardly be considered common with regard to provenance and exceptional condition! PCGS 2, NGC 2, CAC 2, CAC 1. This coin was lot 1075 in Part 1 of the D. Brent Pogue Collection sale, May 2015, and realized $32,900. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $40,000. There are just two graded finer, one in 66 and one in 66+. This majestic early quarter, with its fantastic pedigree, will be sure to entice very strong bidding when the hammer falls. Good luck. Cert.
