- THE TERRA PISTACIA COLLECTION Ex Eliasberg Collection A wonderful 1858 Flying Eagle pattern, pairing the "Skinny" or Small Eagle obverse with the "Harp" Shield reverse. Struck in copper-nickel with a plain edge, this pattern is listed as Rarity-5. These and the other 1858 Flying Eagle Patterns were sold in sets of 12; most of these have been split up over the years. Frosty, sharply struck devices stand out boldly against the watery brilliant, reflective fields. The obverse has an almost Cameo like contrast. Wonderful patina graces both sides, giving this coin a great look. The grade is only limited with some light lines in the lower obverse field. The eye appeal is great. Ex Richard B. Winsor Collection, Chapman Brothers, December 1895, lot 1121 (part of a complete 12-piece 1858 Flying Eagle Pattern Set); J.M. Clapp; Clapp Estate to Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr., via Stack's in 1942; Louis E. Eliasberg Collection, Bowers & Merena, May 1996, lot 128. PCGS 20, NGC 11, CAC 5. The only CAC-approved example to sell was in the 2012 ANA Auction, part of the Hoosier Flyer Collection, realizing $3,055. More recently a non-CAC example sold for $3,600 in March 2022. The current CAC CPG value is listed at $4,500 and the PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $3,250. Obviously these are quite scarce any finer. This is a popular and affordable pattern with a fantastic pedigree! Cert. Number 4491614 PCGS # 11871
