1861 Solider Portrait / THE UNION MUST AND SHALL BE PRESERVED. Fuld-147/227 b (fp), DeWitt-C 1861-6. Rarity-6. Silver-Plated Brass. Plain Edge. MS-62 (PCGS). 31 mm. A richly original example with splashes of warm reddish-russet patina to a base of soft pewter-gray. Frosty luster is most intense in the protected areas around the design elements, which are smartly impressed and sharply rendered except in the center of the reverse, typical of the type.
