- A superb gem example of the final issue of the Barber quarter series that has a legendary pedigree! Carefully and expertly preserved since the time of issue, it is quite possible that Col. Green purchased this coin for face value at the time of striking, and put it away. Eric Newman, in partnership with Burdette Johnson (St. Louis Coin and Stamp Co.) bought large portions of the Col. Green Estate and he kept his coins in old paper envelopes which imparted the crusty, attractive toning on both sides. As would be expected for this lofty grade, the surfaces are clean and mark free. PCGS 15, NGC 12, CAC 10. NGC has graded 2 coins as 67+ and only two finer. This piece sold for $6,463 as lot 33232 in the November 2013 sale of the Newman Collection; the previous lot was an NGC MS68 without CAC that realized $9,400.
