- 1852 Liberty Seated Quarter. Briggs 2-B. MS-62 (PCGS). CAC. Delicate champagne-pink iridescence engages otherwise brilliant surfaces, the obverse also with speckled olive-russet iridescence through the center. This is a sharply struck and lustrous BU example with an impressively smooth appearance in hand. Scarcer than even a limited mintage of 177,060 pieces might imply, the 1852 suffered a high rate of attrition through melting during the run up in silver prices during the early 1850s. Larry Briggs (The Comprehensive Encyclopedia of United States Liberty Seated Quarters, 1991) assigns this issue a Rarity-5 rating in Mint State.
