- 1851 Braided Hair Half Cent. C-1, B-1. Rarity-1. MS-64 RD (PCGS). Uniformly satiny across all elements and sharply defined. Aglow in tangerine and coral-red shades with subtle hints of steel-blue across the highest points. Smooth and without distractions, just 1 coin has been graded finer by PCGS. A condition rarity worthy of any collection. Boldly repunched 1 seen well to the right of the final digit, common to this 1851 obverse die and one of the more dramatic repunchings of this series. Vying with the 1853 as the most plentiful circulation strike Braided Hair half cent, the 1851 is a perennially favorite among Mint State type collectors. PCGS Population: 9; 1 finer. PCGS# 1226.
