Among the FINEST graded by NGC, this is a VERY RARE and important offering! Only 10,630 eagles were originally struck for circulation, and of that number PCGS CoinFacts estimates that 175 survive in all grades. Precious few are seen in Mint State, as the vast majority of this low mintage date went right into the Reconstruction economy and stayed in commercial channels for a long time. Back when David Akers wrote his seminal works on U.S. Gold coins, he was unaware of any Mint State coins. NGC has graded just seven examples in Mint State, all of which are MS60 or MS61. This important condition rarity is the definition of an MS60 gold coin. There is no wear anywhere on this lovely and lustrous Brilliant Uncirculated example. The devices are well struck, the crisp definition is complimented by a bold semi-Prooflike flashy luster this is a very attractive and pleasing. This date is extremely RARE in this lofty state of preservation. There are a couple of small scuffs, but for the assigned grade the eye appeal is bold and it is not at all hacked up. PCGS 7, NGC 5. The last NGC MS60 sold back in March 2016--six and a half long years ago. More recently a PCGS MS60 CAC sold for $18,000. The current Collectors Universe value is listed at $18,000. NGC has graded just two finer. This attractive coin is worthy of an advanced eagle collection! Do not let this important opportunity pass you by! Cert. Number 5744688002 PCGS # 8653
