FROM THE SEATTLE COLLECTION Here is another RARE Shield nickel Pattern, combining the regular issue 1866-dated obverse and the No Rays reverse design of 1867-1883. Rating R-6+, there are at most 20 examples thought extant, of which this one ranks high in the census. Very pleasing light brown surfaces with gold and red tinges that accent the satiny smooth, reflective surfaces and sharply struck devices. Among the very finest graded, this lovely coin is bested by just a single coin in 66 RB at PCGS. PCGS 3, NGC 3, CAC 2. This is not the one that sold in June 2011, but we think it may be the one in Stack's November 2008 auction, which realized $4,888. The current Collectors Universe value is listed at $5,200.
