- FROM THE BEAR CREEK COLLECTION This is an important issue among dollar collectors, its low mintage of 12,462 represents the first Carson City dollar coinage. Most of these went into wild west circulation and remained in commercial channels for years. Most survivors grade between VF20 and AU50. Ample satin luster remains in the fields under a layer of dove and pewter toning. The details are very sharp, with just a touch of friction on the highest points. Some scattered ticks and lines from its time in commerce can be seen with the aid of a glass, but the surfaces are devoid of the typical scratches, harsh cleaning, or other defect that plague so many of these 70-CC Seated dollars. If it is an indication of how these come, note CAC has never stickered any AU53. PCGS 29, NGC 18. Going back to September 2011, 10 AU53 coins graded by PCGS have sold in auction, realizing an average of $7,108 and the current PCGS Price Guide lists a value of $7,250. Scarce in AU55 and AU58, and extremely RARE in any Mint State grade, this pleasing coin will delight any CC specialist or Seated dollar collector. Good luck. Cert. Number 11666262 PCGS # 6964.00
