1888 Liberty Quarter Eagle. MS-66 (NGC). 1908 Indian Quarter Eagle. MS-64 (PCGS). The 1888 is one of the higher mintage quarter eagles from the 1880s, yet Gem quality survivors remain elusive in today's market. It is has been quite some time since this cataloger (Jeff Ambio) has handled a piece with such smooth, vibrantly lustrous surfaces as those possessed by this gorgeous example. There are only a few extremely minor abrasions scattered about, and it is billowy mint frost and pretty roe-gold color that captivate the eye. Sharply struck in most areas.
