- Undated (1853) Round 25 Cents. BG-222. Rarity-2. Liberty Head. MS-65 (PCGS). OGH. Gorgeous olive-orange surfaces are modestly semi-reflective in the fields, sharply defined and satiny over the design elements. The Jay Roe specimen (Bowers and Merena, September 2003, lot 36), also a PCGS MS-65, was cataloged as: "Perhaps not the rarest coin in the Jay Roe Collection, but certainly one of the prettiestof his California gold pieces." The same could be said of the Oregon Collection specimen of BG-222 offered here. Early die state, BG State I, with no cracks or breaks on either side. Provenance: From the Oregon Collection.
