- 1893-S Liberty Head Half Eagle. MS-65 (NGC). A sparkling rose to orange-gold specimen with satiny smooth surfaces, a sharp strike, and mint luster at the height of bloom. Gem half eagles of the date are difficult to obtain, despite a somewhat sizable mintage for the issue of 224,000 pieces. Despite that hefty output, just four have been certified MS-65 by NGC, with none finer. PCGS adds only two additional examples at MS-65, though does note a single MS-66 and MS-66+ in their rosters. However it is spun, the present Gem is exceedingly rare at this state of preservation and would make a notable addition to one of the finest of cabinets. NGC Census: 4; none finer. PCGS# 8386.
