详细说明: A Proof Only mintage of 960 is all that was made available to collectors in 1881; very few were produced from the early die state with bold Deep Cameo contrast. As the coins were struck the frost on the devices wore down, and the contrast moderated overtime. This borderline GEM example has a sensational contrast and bold eye appeal! Icy, smooth, deeply reflective, flashy brilliant mirrors beam boldly from all over! WOW, On first inspection this DCAM is blast black and white with a thick white frosted texture in the sharply struck devices standing out boldly, but there is a gentle kiss of pale champagne that comes off the obverse when rotated in a light. A couple of faint hairlines are all that keeps this monster DCAM from a full GEM grade and they can be easily overlooked in terms of the sensational eye appeal! Only 960 Proofs were struck PCGS 12, NGC 4, CAC 4. There are five in PR64+ DCAM and fewer than a dozen finer at PCGS in all grades up to PR67 DCAM. This coin realized $14,000 in September 2022 and it should be noted we sold a PR65 DCAM for $19,388 three and a half years ago.
