The mintage of 230,000 pieces was lost or melted long ago, and few survive today in any grade. At this near Gem level, this is likely tied at the lower end of the top dozen known for the date and mint. Clean surfaces for the grade assigned and a prize for the date and mint collector who demands quality and eye appeal. Notice the depth of strike not only on Liberty's head but on the finer details of the wreath. Shallow low areas in the lower reverse fields, as struck. Trace hairlines from handling, but these are easy to overlook given the rarity and general appearance of this rarity.
