- B-12, BB-160. A popular Red Book variety, with no berries on the olive branch. This is a high end example falls just shy of the Bowers Condition Census. Sharply struck from a cracked obverse die, Die State III. The surfaces are smooth and satiny lustrous with a rich overtone on both sides that give this nearly CHOICE BU Bust dollar a wonderful, original look. Pale dove patina has a pearlescent sheen that is layered with a delicate battleship-gray, slate-blue, and amber-gold tone. Lighter shades of antique silver glows when rotated in a light. This die marriage is one of the more common for the year, but like all Bust dollars, is quite rare in any Mint State grade. All Mint State dollars are a highlight of whichever auction it is presented in. Most Draped Bust dollars are seen in lower grades or with condition issues, mostly in grades lower than VF; XF and AU coins are scarce. Mint State coins turn heads. This essentially CHOICE example is not an AU coin in a Mint State coin. PCGS 26, NGC 14. This coin sold for $30,000 in January 2019 and the current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $32,500. As a date, PCGS has graded just 31 finer, up to MS66 grade. However, we think there must be duplication in the Population Reports. Though not listed in Dave Bowers' census, this high end coin will delight anyone looking for a high grade example of the date or variety. Cert. Number 37472918 PCGS # 40051
