First glance at this magnificent fully CHOICE example looks like a full PROOF, what does it take for PCGS to designate a PL? A blazing, brilliant, bright silver luster gleams with a bold reflection. The devices are sharply struck and have a full, thick frost. The surfaces show some planchet rolling lines and die lines. A very rare date, only 11,540 were struck, the lowest of the Civil War era and this one is particularly high end and beautiful! Starting in 1853, most of the silver dollars produced were struck for international commerce, and the 1862 issues are no different. Few survive today in Mint State, especially at this lofty state or finer. PCGS 21, NGC 13, CAC 6. There are 4 in MS63+ and just 18 are graded finer. This is NOT the coin that sold in November 2016 for $8,225. More recently an NGC MS63 CAC sold for $10,200 in the 2018 ANA auction. The MS63 CAC CPG value is listed at $10,600. We cannot find this coin having appeared in auction previously. This coin belongs in a truly special collection--be that of types, Civil War coins, Seated Liberty dollars, or a special box of 20. We know bidding will be very strong. Cert. Number 38141293 PCGS # 6952.00
