- 1825 Capped Bust Dime. JR-2. Rarity-2. MS-64 (PCGS). Iridescent toning in steel-blue, champagne-pink and antique gold is bolder and more varied on the obverse. Both sides are universally lustrous with a smooth, softly frosted texture in hand. Sharply struck throughout, and uncommonly so for the type. Although federal records provide a mintage of 510,000 dimes for calendar year 1825, that total is believed to include some coins dated 1824. The 1825-dated issue is still relatively obtainable in an absolute sense, but the Large Diameter Capped Bust dime as a type is conditionally challenging with Mint State coins scarce to rare depending on specific grade. Solidly in the Choice category, the present example is among the finest we have offered for both the issue and the die pairing in recent years.
