This is the SINGLE FINEST Plain 5 in the BN category at PCGS, and we take some umbrage at the color classification, as there is ample original red blazing through the surfaces, especially on the reverse. Some delicate flashes of violet and orange come out when rotating this very brilliant lustrous piece in a light. Sharply struck, this SUPERB example offers an awesome visual allure. PCGS has graded just this one coin as MS66+ BN designated as Plain 5. Without designation as to the style of 5, there are none in MS66+ BN, nor are there any in the Fancy 5 designation. Thus we can unhesitatingly call this the finest 1865 2 cent piece in the BN category at PCGS. Unpriced in the PCGS Price Guide, we think this coin will sell for a record price for an 1865 in BN.
