- HT-70 Struck in copper. Beautiful! Brilliant cartwheel luster blooms from all over, accenting the light golden-brown patina and ample hints of ORIGINAL mint RED color. A superb eye appeal is unmarred by any distracting marks or ticks. One of Andrew Jackson's goals was to rid the nation of the Bank of the United States. Established during Hamilton's time at Treasury, many southern and western politicians felt the bank was unconstitutional, so when the charter came up for renewal during Jackson's administration, he vetoed it. Without a central bank, the economy became shaky and became very much hard money focused. Satirical tokens and banknotes (along with broadsides and political cartoons) lampooned Jackson for this act. This token shows Jackson protecting the treasury, sword in hand, while the reverse explains his thinking for the charter veto, and a donkey, which became the symbol for the Democratic party. PCGS 3, NGC 3. Rarely seen in such lofty grades at auction, this token overall is fairly common in lower grades. A SUPERB GEM like this will delight any hard times token collector, or collector of political Americana. Cert. Number 82962143 PCGS # 77366
