详细说明: 1859 Octagonal 50 Cents. BG-902. Rarity-4-. Liberty Head. MS-67 (PCGS). Vivid reddish-apricot color blankets satiny and silky smooth surfaces on both sides of this exquisite Superb Gem. BG-902 is attributed to maker Frontier, Deviercy & Co., and it combines the reverse of BG-901 (repunched digit 9 in the date) with an obverse that displays a slightly broader bust of Liberty. One example of this type was acquired as part of a three-piece set of 1859-dated California small denomination gold coins (octagonal 25 cents, round 25 cents, octagonal 50 cents) for the United States Mint cabinet on November 25, 1862, described therein as "California pocket pieces," for half face value, i.e.., 50 cents for the entire set. Although most examples of BG-902 are Uncirculated, this Superb Gem is the single finest certified by PCGS and NGC. It is a beautiful coin that will please even the most discerning numismatist.
