Ex Bruce Scher Collection. This is an incredible SUPREB GEM CAMEO Barber quarter Proof! The technical and aesthetic qualities are entirely off the charts! Tied for FINEST graded in the designation at PCGS with just one other example, this is the ONLY example to have ever sold in auction, and not since August 2006! Exceptional, original toning on both sides show rich rose and peach iridescent hues cling to Liberty's frosted portrait, while the fields are dusted with violet, red, pale blue, soft green, and shimmering silver iridescent toning, combining for a unique palette of color. The reverse is a more even and deeply toned, with vivid gold, blazing tangerine, violet, apricot, and brilliant azure tones. Both sides exhibit deep, beaming mirrors that blaze with a stunning reflection that comes through with bold clarity, even with the natural toning. Clearly this pristine example was lovingly cared for in the original tissue of issue when it left the mint until it was sent in for grading, sometime in the last 20 years or so. Only 846 Proofs were struck. PCGS 2,NGC 4, CAC 2. This is one of the absolute FINEST, and was included in the Bruce Scher #1 Set, sold by Heritage in April 2005, for a record price of $12,506. It has NOT been sold in auction since ANR's August 2006 Old West and Franklinton Collection sale.
