- 1863 Washington in Star / Shield, Eagle and Ribbon Civil War token. Musante GW-620, Baker-496, var., Fuld-105/198b. Rarity-8. Brass. MS-66 (PCGS). 19.3 mm. A very pretty token with gently striated golden olive surfaces accented by attractive rose, lilac and orange mottling. Highly lustrous and sharp. A small area of roughness left of the date was from a strike-through error, as it is seen on the next piece, too. A variant without designer’s initials, unlisted by Baker. Very rare in brass, which is not listed by Musante. Provenance: Ex William Spohn Baker Collection, to the Historical Society of Pennsylvania by bequest, November 15, 1897.
