- The 14-D is a very RARE date in GEM, and virtually unobtainable any finer. After 36 years of grading, PCGS has graded just TWO finer, both MS65+ than the presently offered GEM housed in an old green tag holder. The 14-D is an interesting issue, with a somewhat smaller mintage, of which 448,000 were struck, and these were generally not well produced. This GEM is an exception for sure! Impressive quality surfaces display a brilliant, yellow gold with rich orange-gold accents. A strong luster highlights the surfaces. All of the details are crisp and sharp, deeply rendered by the bold, exacting strikes from the dies. Overall, the surfaces are extremely clean and smooth; the dreaded right reverse field has only a few tiny contact ticks and is above average in cleanliness. The eye appeal is off the charts for this usually poorly produced, poorly preserved date. PCGS 56, NGC 49, CAC 5. The most recent example sold for $38,400 in December 2021. Rare date gold is still very hot in the market, and since this is one of the VERY FINEST of the date with or without CAC approval, this coin will likewise bring a very strong bid from the collector who demands the VERY BEST! The current PCGS Price Guide and CAC CPG value are too low in our opinion, and after this GEM hammers down, the published levels will have no where to go but up! Good luck. Cert.
