- 1886 United States Assay Commission Medal. By Charles E. Barber and George T. Morgan. JK AC-29. Rarity-5. Copper. AU-55 BN (NGC). 33 mm. Deep golden-copper patina blankets surfaces that are boldly to sharply defined throughout the design. Wispy obverse handling marks and a trace of rub to the high points on both sides explains the NGC grade. The reverse design of both this issue and JK AC-30 is attributed to George T. Morgan (per the 1914 Mint catalog) and displays Justice holding aloft a blazing torch before the Philadelphia Mint with the legend JUSTITIAE LAMPAS MONETAE ALLUCET: "The Lamp of Justice Illuminates the Coinage."
