- 1795 Flowing Hair Half Dime. LM-10, V-4A. Rarity-3. MS-62 (PCGS). Secure Holder. This is a charming BU that is knocking on the door of a Choice Mint State grade. Both sides are totally devoid of outwardly distracting abrasions, and the overall appearance is remarkably smooth for an early U.S. silver coin at the lower reaches of Mint State. Satiny luster is a bit subdued in an absolute sense, yet still suitably bold by the standards of the type. The strike, while not 100% full, is a bit bolder than that seen on the plate coin for this die marriage on page 102 of the 1998 book Federal Half Dimes: 1792-1837 by Russell J. Logan and John W. McCloskey. Most areas exhibit soft silver-gray patina, although much of the obverse is splashed with warmer olive-gray color. PQ for the grade, this appealing piece is sure to be of keen interest to the Mint State type collector. The reverse is rotated 90 degrees clockwise from normal coin alignment.
