For sixteen years, the PCGS Set Registry has been awarding top sets. Judging has become increasingly difficult because there are so many great sets registered. Think about the fact that nearly 37,000 of these sets have a completion factor in the 90-100% range. The sets are, to say the least, VERY IMPRESSIVE! Best Classic Sets of 2018
Oliver Jung - The Type Set - Complete U.S. Type Set (1792-1964)
There are few collecting goals that U.S. numismatists aspire to more than a complete type set of U.S. coins. And no one has done it better than Oliver Jung! Not the incredible High Desert Collection (Hall of Fame set and LONG time registry winner), not Louis Eliasberg and not even D. L Hansen has assembled a better set. With a set rating of 66.61, it’s almost within a point of the theoretical maximum. The early copper is amazing, with MS66 and 67RB examples of most of the 18th century entries. Likewise, the early silver and gold is replete with finest-knowns and near finest-knowns. In fact, most of the avenues for improvement now lie in the “easy” stuff – mid 20th century stuff where a 68+ or 69 could replace a 68! A Hall of Fame winner last year and well deserving of another Gold.
High Desert - Gold Type Set, Circulation Strikes (1795-1933)
A three-time Gold award winner, the High Desert Gold Type Set edges out the runner up by virtue of it being 100% complete. The set rating of 64.85 is particularly impressive in view of some of the really tough coins in the set including the 1796 No Stars $2,50, the 1808 $2,50, the Draped Bust Small Eagle $10, and the 1907 Wire Edge $10.
D.L. Hansen Collection - U.S. Coins Complete Basic Set, Circulation Strikes (1792-present)
Words fail us when attempting to describe the scope and breadth of this incredible undertaking. A complete U.S. coin set has only been seriously achieved one other time – by none other than Louis Eliasberg. Mr. Hansen’s set exceeds Eliasberg’s in quality by approximately three and a half points, and currently stands at 97.37% complete. A description of the highlights would consume many pages, but Mr. Hansen has generously shared all the details and numerous photos on the Set Registry Website. Our hats are off to Mr. Hansen for this most impressive set, which no doubt will continue to improve and edge ever closer to 100% completion.
Subway Tokens - Commemoratives Complete Set, Circulation Strikes and Proof (1892-present)
We’re all familiar with the traditional 50 and 144-piece sets of U.S. commemoratives from 1892 to 1954, but here is a massive 432-piece set encompassing every U.S. commemorative issued to the present day! Last year, the Pan Pac Octagonal was added, completing this comprehensive set, and giving it a set rating of 68.87. Including over 300 “finest knowns,” this is an outstanding achievement, and leads the second place set by over two points. This is Subway Tokens’ fifth gold for this incredible set.
High Desert - U.S. Half Cents & Cents Complete Basic Set, Circulation Strikes (1793-present)
Starting with a 1796 Half Cent in MS65+RB and an MS-69 Wreath Cent, and including an 1877 Indian Cent in MS-66RD, this set can only be described as phenomenal. With a set rating of 67.46 it is not only the current finest set, but the finest all-time set, exceeding runner-up Hansen’s set by almost two and a half points. Jaw-dropping quality and well deserving of a fifth gold!
KCV c-s w/MV Cir. - U.S. Nickels Complete Set with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1866-present)
After winning his first gold in 2016, KCV extends his streak to three this year for this outstanding 331-piece set. It is 100% complete and carries a set rating of 66.17. A few of the highlights include an 1885 in MS-66+, a 1905, in MS67, a 1935-D in MS-67 and the single finest-known 1948-P. With heavyweights such as the 1916 Doubled Die and the 1918/7-D, this is no easy set. Well done.
Monte Weiner the BigMo Collection - Civil War Set with Gold (1861-1865)
The Civil War was a most traumatic time for our nation, and with the Southern mints in transition during 1861, a fascinating period for coin collectors. BigMo has managed to assemble all 111 coins in this historic set (including gold!) and has achieved a set rating of 62.03. A few of the numerous highlights include one of the finest known 1861-D Half Eagles, the finest known 1861-C Half Eagle, the finest known 1862-S silver set, a Proof 65 1862 Eagle, and Proof 65+ 1862 Double Eagle. Twelve coins are absolute finest knowns with another five in the “un-improvable” class. A Gold Star winner for the past three years, it is more than deserving of a fourth this year.
ESM - Half Cents Basic Set, Circulation Strikes and Proof (1793-1857)
After winning six Blue Ribbon awards since 2011, we are pleased to award ESM his first Gold for this outstanding set. It is 100% complete and boasts a very respectable set rating of 63.19. Some of the highlights include a 1793 in MS-63BN from the Eliasberg collection, a lovely AU-55 1796 With Pole, and several finest-knowns Originals from the later years including the 1842, 1847 and 1849. This set contains numerous pedigreed coins from the Eliasberg, Pittman and Norweb collections.
Jim McGuigan - Half Cents Die Variety Set by Cohen, Circulation Strikes (1793-1857)
We welcomed longtime Half Cent collector Jim McGuigan to the Gold Star club in 2015 with his outstanding set of Half Cents by Cohen number. With a daunting 98 coins in the set, Jim has managed to complete 98% of the set in an average grade of 53. Just his 1793s include a 64, a two 65’s and a 66! Both of his 1796s are mint state. There are some tough varieties here, including the 1797 Gripped Edge and the 1802, Rev. 1800. This set also contains 24 absolute finest-knowns (Pop 1, none higher). In all we congratulate Jim on an outstanding achievement and his fourth consecutive Gold award.
High Desert - Large Cents with Major Varieties (With the four Ultra Rarities), Circulation Strikes (1793-1857)

American Numismatics was born with Large Cent collecting, and High Desert’s set currently sits atop the Set Registry by over six points. It is 100% complete including the Strawberry Leaf Wreath Cent, the 1795 Reeded Edge, and the two 1795 Jefferson Heads! And given that these ultra rarites only come in low grade, this set still manages an overall rating of 58.21! A very tough set and quite an accomplishment. We are pleased to award a fourth Gold Star.
ESM - Large Cents with Major Varieties, Proof (1817-1857)

All Proof coins prior to 1858 are tough, and the issues from the 1820s and 1830s are all extreme rarities with PCGS pops in the low single digits. Completing this set is a significant accomplishment and judging by the population data, one that will not be soon duplicated. How are we sure? Well, of the 36 coins that make up this set, 17 of ESMs coins are Pop 1 with nine finer! With a set rating of 66.68, we are in awe of this collecting tour-de-force and proudly award his fifth Gold Star Award.

The Foreside Collection - Flying Eagle Cents with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes and Proof (1856-1858)

This may be a small set (only 5 mint state and 4 proof coins), but it is a glorious one nonetheless. With a set rating of 66.53 it currently sits atop the Registry. This collector has an eye for quality, in fact his four business strike 1857 and 1858s are Top Pops and his 1858 Large Letters PR66+CA is the single finest graded. We congratulate this collector on his fourth Gold Star award-winning effort.

Wright - Flying Eagle Cents Complete Variety Set, Circulation Strikes (1856-1858)
While encompassing only three years, one would think this would be a short and easy set. But when you consider all the die varieties, you end up with a very tough 21-piece set. Mr. Wright’s set is complete, and with Population bonuses achieves a set rating of 63.42. This is quite a feat, as some of these varieties are unknown in higher MS grades. We congratulate Mr. Wright on his first Gold Star award.
ESM - Indian Cents with Major Varieties, Proof (1859-1909)

With an astonishing set rating of 69.73, it’s almost impossible to imagine a finer set. 60% of the coins in this set are unimprovable and over three quarters of the coins are Cameos or Deep Cameos. After having won six Blue and three Gold awards over the past nine years, we again award a Gold Star Award for this outstanding accomplishment.

The Ehreth Collection - Lincoln Cents with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1959-Present)
While it’s hard to believe the Lincoln Memorial Cent is going to be 60 years old, it’s equally hard to believe a complete set since 1959 with a set rating of 68.48! While in middle MS grades these coins are fairly common, in the top grades of MS67 and higher, the populations thin out quickly for coins struck in the 1960s and 70s. After six Blue Star awards, we are pleased to award Mr. Ehreth his first Gold.
AU_Hobby - Lincoln Cents Complete Variety Set, Circulation Strikes and Proof (1909-Present)
Pretty much all numismatists who started as kids, started with a set of Lincoln Cents. And this is the ultimate Lincoln Cent set, containing all varieties in both MS and Proof. This set is far more difficult than might appear at first glance. While it is “only” Lincoln Cents, it comprises an astonishing 558 different coins. Many dozens of doubled dies and repunched mintmarks require patience and lots of searching on the part of the collector attempting it. AUHobby has managed to complete over 98% of this massive set, with a current Weighted GPA of just over 65. After a Blue Star in 2014 and two Gold Stars in 2016 and 2017, we are proud to award his third consecutive Gold Star award.
Simpson - Shield Two Cents Basic Set, Circulation Strikes and Proof (1864-1873)
Near the threshold of perfection, Simpson’s set of Two Cent Pieces in MS and Proof is a wonder to behold. Boasting a set rating of a mind-boggling 68.28, nearly a third of the set consists of finest knowns and every coin in the set is either full red, or a cameo. This was a new set in 2015, and has easily earned its fourth Gold Star Award.

Dan Cent - Shield Two Cents with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1864-1872)
Though it includes only a dozen coins, Dan Cent has assembled an extraordinary set with a rating of 68.333 and a Red percentage of 100%. Half of the coins are finest knowns (or tied for that honor) and after being awarded Gold Stars in two previous years, we are pleased to repeat the award for 2018.
TDP (tompet38) - Three Cent Nickels with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes and Proof (1865-1889)

Tompet’s set of Three Cent Nickels is the current champion of this tough series, sporting a very high set rating of 68.93. Don’t look for that to go up too much anytime soon, because of the 49 coins that make up this set, 36 are already top pops and cannot be improved! Nearly all the Proofs are either Cameo or Deep Cameo, and among the Mint State issues, there are only five coins on the planet today that could upgrade this portion of the set. Our kudos for a second Gold Star Award!
The Greenbrier River Collection - Shield Nickels with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes and Proof (1866-1883)

A Blue Star award winner in 2013 and a Gold Star winner every year since then we proudly add a fifth Gold Star this year. Containing 22 top pops and less than one point from the current theoretical finest possible set rating, it is the best Shield Nickel set ever assembled.
The Greenbrier River Collection - Liberty Nickels Basic Set, Circulation Strikes and Proof (1883-1912)
Not content to conquer Shield Nickels, Greenbriar River has also done the same to Liberty Nickels by assembling the all-time finest set of these as well. Of the 33 Mint State issues, only eight have room for improvement, and seven of those eight have only one coin that would qualify. With a set rating of 67.775 and three Blue Star award over the past three years, we feel a Gold Star is well-earned for 2018.
The JDG Trust Collection - Buffalo Nickels with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1913-1938)

Boasting a set rating of 66.737, the JDG Collection of Buffalo Nickels is a most impressive accomplishment, featuring the finest known 1916, 1917-D, 1927-S, 1936-D 3 1/2 Legs and 1938-D and, oh, did we mention the finest known 1918/17-D as well? More impressive, might even be the fact that 41 of the 71 coins sit at the top of the population, which for a series such as Buffalo nickels is no mean feat. This set continues to improve each year and leads the second place set by over two points. Our congratulations on a seventh Gold Star, and eleventh consecutive win in the category.
Tom Bender - Capped Bust Half Dimes with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1829-1837)
Among the many amazing new sets last year was Tom Bender’s amazing set of Capped Bust Half Dimes. An incredible eight of the fourteen coins are Pop 1, finest knowns! How is that for seeking out the absolute best? Bender’s set has a Rating of 67.74 which for an early 19th century set is almost unheard of. We proudly award Tom a third consecutive Gold Star award for 2018.
KDM - Capped Bust Half Dimes Die Variety Set by Logan-McCloskey, Circulation Strikes (1829-1837)
A winner for the past seen years KDM’s set continues to lead the category. With no fewer than 123 different coins, this set is over 99% complete and made up of exquisitely toned and original pieces. With many of the coins in Choice AU this set has the look and feel that many aspire to. Sets such as this require a tremendous amount of patience, knowledge and searching, and we congratulate KDM on a well-earned fifth Gold Star.

Tom Bender - Liberty Seated Half Dimes with Major Varieties & 1870-S, Circulation Strikes (1837-1873)

Looking for the unique 1870-S Half Dime? You’ll find it here as this incredible set is 100% complete. And not simply complete, but sporting a set rating just shy of 67 – at 66.88. Tom has shared photographs of virtually every coin, and nearly all display beautiful, rich original toning. This set passed Simpson’s fantastic set in 2017 as the finest ever and we proudly award it its second Gold Star award.
Link's (The Early American Silver Major Variety Set of Capped Bust Dimes) - Capped Bust Dimes with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1809-1837)
While there are loads of Capped Bust Halves around, Capped Bust Dimes and Quarters are quite scarce due both to far lower original mintages and far heavier circulation. Gem early dimes such as these are quite tough, and exactly half the coins in this set sit at the top of the population charts. Nearly all display marvelous original toning. The set rating of 64.6 is pulled down slightly by the 1829 Curl Base 2 variety, which comes no finer than VF! Our congratulations on a first Gold Star Award.
Stewart Blay (Varieties Incorporated) - Barber Dimes with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1892-1916)

This is a highly competitive category, and with the “retirement” of the Simpson collection to Platinum in 2014, Varieties Incorporated took the top spot in 2015. With a set rating just over 67.5, this 100% complete set takes home its fourth Gold Star award. Over half of the 76 coins in this set sit atop their respective population figures, so we’re approaching perfection here.
D.L. Hansen Collection - Barber Dimes with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes and Proof (1892-1916)

Last year, Mr. D.L. Hansen swept into the Set Registry like a whirlwind, dazzling and delighting us with his outstanding sets. One of his finest is his complete set of Barber Dimes, both MS and Proof, including major varieties. With a set rating of 66.873, it boasts seven absolute finest knowns (pop one, none finer) and over twenty top pops. Last year he took the Blue Star crown from longtime champion “chugum”, and this year we award him a Gold for this great set.
D.L. Hansen Collection - Mercury Dimes FB with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes and Proof (1916-1945)

Mercury Dimes, along with Buffalos, Walkers, Lincolns and Morgan Dollars have long been a favorite of set collectors. Their attractive design and nostalgia factor have made them a perennial favorite for years, and D.L Hansen has simply set a new standard for perfection in this popular series. He has assembled a set with a current rating of 69.08, blowing away the former longtime winner by over two points, which in a highly competitive set such as this is really saying something. After winning a Blue last year, like his Barber Dimes, we’ll replace it with a Gold for 2018.
Larry Martin - Mercury Dimes FB Complete Variety Set, Circulation Strikes (1916-1945)
Lacking only one piece from completion, this 108 piece set includes numerous tough DDO and RPM varieties which can sometimes be “cherrypicked” with a sharp eye. Larry even shares a few of his stories in his set description. After having received six previous Blue Star awards, last year we felt the set was close enough to completion to warrant a Gold Star award. We still do. Congratulations Larry.
Link's (The Early American Silver Capped Bust Quarter Variety Set) - Capped Bust Quarters with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1815-1838)

This is an incredible set made of up many pop 1, finest known coins including the very scarce 1823/2 overdate. Over half of the coins sit on top of the Pop Report. The set rating of 65.02 speaks for itself as these early quarters are fairly scarce in almost any grade, much less MS66 and 67. This set is receiving its fourth Gold Star and has quickly eclipsed Eliasberg, Garrett, Norweb and other famous collections by a healthy margin.
1TwoBits - Early Quarters Die Variety Set by A.W. Browning, Circulation Strikes (1796-1838)
Compared to early Bust Halves, Bust Quarters are all very scarce. Few were minted to begin with and most saw heavy circulation before being melted. Even a simple date set would be a challenge, but a complete Browning set is tall order indeed! A new set last year, TwoBits has now achieved a 96.81% completion rate and almost 40% of the coins are the finest known for their variety. Over 20 are absolute finest knowns! A well-earned second Gold Star.

Brian Ray (The Buckeye Collection) - Washington Quarters Basic Set, Proof (1936-Present)
There’s plenty of competition in this category, but the Buckeye Collection remained on top for a fourth consecutive year. Even though much of the set is of comparatively recent vintage, Buckeye’s early issues almost all sit at the top of the population charts. Washington Quarters are extremely popular and in this set there are many high grade examples representing this fabulous series. Our congratulations on a fourth Gold Star award.
Phillips Collection - Washington Quarters Complete Variety Set, Circulation Strikes (1932-1998)
Phillips Collection has amassed a very tough (265 pieces required) yet, really fun set of Washington Quarters which includes numerous elusive varieties. Many of the varieties registered in the set are pop 1 coins with none being finer. The collector has made great progress over the last year, adding four new coins – the set is missing only one coin now. Great job and a fourth Gold Star is well earned.
Link's (The Early American Silver Collection of Flowing Hair and Draped Bust Half Dollars) - Early Half Dollars with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1794-1839)

Like his Early American Dime and Quarter sets, Link’s Half Dollars set a standard that will be hard to beat, holding more than a 12-point lead over the second All-Time finest set. The 101-piece set is 100% complete and boasts a set rating just over 62, which for a late 18th and early 19th century set is phenomenal. The two 1796s and the 1797 are all MS63 or better which tells you all you need to know about the quality of this set. A Gold Star winner for 2017, and certainly deserving of a repeat!
Early Halves - Capped Bust Half Dollars with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1807-1839)
While not quite as comprehensive as a complete Overton Set, there are plenty of major varieties to be found in the Bust Half area, and Early Halves has managed to find them all including the very tough 1817/4 and a nice MS63 example of the 1830 Large Letters! With three Blue Star awards and now a third Gold Star award, he’ll need to make more room on the trophy shelf! Our congratulations on completing a very tough and interesting set.
Link's (The Early American Silver "All the Stars in the Night Sky" Collection) - Capped Bust Half Dollars Die Variety and Die State Set by Overton, Circulation Strikes (1807-1836)

Wow – talk about a challenge! A complete set of Overton Halves consisting of 616 coins simply boggles the mind – not so much for the value but for the sheer difficulty of locating all the varieties. Link has managed to get there, assembling 615 of the 616 varieties for a completion rate of an amazing 99.84%. His one “missing” coin is also missing from the PCGS Pop Report, as we have yet to grade a single example of Overton 112a (1807 Large Stars 50/20). So yeah, we’ll call it complete! And for quality, the set sits at 61, and when you consider the rarity of some varieties, it is all the more incredible. And we’re not alone in our effusive praise. Check out the comments section on the page for his set. This one is typical: “Spectacular! I don't understand how anyone could assemble a complete die state set in such lofty grades in a single lifetime. Truly amazing.” A Hall of Fame set, and our honor and privilege to award a third Gold Star.
Perfection - Liberty Seated Half Dollars Date Set, Circulation Strikes (1839-1891)
For 53 years, the Liberty Seated Design graced our nation’s Half Dollar and they are all represented here in superb condition. Perfection’s set is less than one point away from the theoretical maximum of 66.569 although another relative newcomer hot on his heels. Over a third of the coins in this fabulous set are top pops. We take pride in awarding this beautiful set its second of hopefully many more Gold Star awards.
D.L. Hansen Collection - Barber Half Dollars Basic Set, Circulation Strikes and Proof (1892-1915)

How better to mark your debut year than by posting the finest all time set in an important category? Well, D. L. Hansen’s Barber Half Set with Circulation Strikes and Proofs did just that in 2017. And not just by a bit, but by over two and a half points! Not content to rest on his laurels, Mr. Hanson has upped the ante, and now holds an astonishing four and a half-point lead over the former champion. The set rating of 67.79 is amazing in its own right, and close to 60 coins now are in the “unimproveable” category. A slam dunk for a second Gold Star.
Ron Bauer - Walking Liberty Half Dollars with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes and Proofs (1916-1947)
Walkers have long been among the most popular coins in U.S. numismatics, and among the most competitive sets on the Registry. Ron managed to assemble the current finest set in his first year, improved it by adding the final coin (a 1941 Proof) in the second year. He continues to lead in his third year on the Registry and we heartily congratulate Ron on another Gold Star award and trust this set still has great things in store for the future.
Bruce Morelan - Early Dollars Basic Set, Circulation Strikes (1794-1803)
Bruce’s set starts off with the incredible SP66 1794 $1, the current record holder for the most valuable U.S. coin. It continues with a total of 10 out of the 12 coins ranked as finest known (5) or tied for the finest known (5). The set boasts an incredible average grade of 65.84. Assembling and preserving such an inspiring group of these historical works of art is not only a great accomplishment but is a true service for future generations of numismatists. Our kudos for a fifth Gold Star Award and this significant contribution to the hobby.

Perfection - Liberty Seated Dollars Basic Set, Proof (1858-1873)
Mr. Perfection states that Seated Dollars are his favorite registry set. These iconic American coins are “simply beautiful.” They are not widely collected due to their cost. While many Seated Dollars come dark, Mr. Perfection has passed over these even at higher grades in favor of toned coins where the colors are truly spectacular. Check out the many photos he has generously shared if you want to see some incredible Seated Dollars. With a current Set Rating of 66.257, this will be his fifth consecutive Gold Star Award.
The Black Cat Collection - Trade Dollars with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1873-1878)
Formerly a well-known set on the Registry, this is likely the finest set ever in a series category. Of the 18 coins, 15 are absolute finest knowns (pop 1, 0 higher), one is tied for finest known, and the other two each have only one coin higher. So only two coins exist on the planet that could improve this incredible set. The set rating is 67.80, or .125 points off the theoretical maximum. For a set of a 19th century series, that is indeed mind-boggling. Our congratulations to the new owner!
Simpson - Trade Dollars, Proof (1873-1885)
Just as tradedollarnut’s Mint State set almost defies improvement, Simpson’s set of Proofs does the same. For one thing, it’s complete, including both the 1884 and 1885! The set rating of 66.653 is limited only by the existing coins. A fifth year for the Gold Award, we have confidence that as the few coins that could improve this set come on the market, they will soon be included here.

IPS - Morgan Dollars with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1878-1921)
With the retirement of California 1 to Platinum in 2014, the IPS Morgan Dollar set stepped up from Blue to Gold. And what a set! With a rating of 65.75 it now sits atop one of the most competitive sets in the entire Registry. Some of the many highlights include the 92-S in MS-67, the 93-S in MS-64, the 93-CC in MS-66, and both the 01-S and 04-S in MS-67. Hats off for a well-deserved fourth Gold Star Award.
D.L. Hansen Collection - Morgan Dollars Basic Set, Circulation Strikes and Proof (1878-1921)
In his first listing year, D.L. Hansen’s Morgan Dollar set was already 100% complete and boasted a set rating of 65.622 beating the previous champion – a five-time blue star winner. For 2018, the set rating has nudged up half a point to 66.103 affording him more than a full point lead over the runner-up. A second Gold Star award seems to be in order!
M. E. Lesniewski - Peace Dollars, Circulation Strikes (1921-1935)
Longtime champion California 1 went Platinum in 2013 affording the opportunity for another great collection to take the top spot. M.E. Lesniewski stepped up, and now offers a complete set of Peace Dollars with an impressive set rating of 66.34. After two Blue Stars in 2016 and 2017, the judges this year awarded the first Gold Star award to this fine set.
Just Having Fun (Have Fun With Your Coins) - Indian Head $2-1/2 Gold, Proof (1908-1915)
Proof Gold has long been referred to as the Caviar of American Numismatics, and what a serving this set is. With a rating of 68.05, it is the finest ever assembled by almost a point and a half. Don’t expect much in the way of improvement anytime soon though, as almost every coin in this set is either the finest known, or tied for that honor! A third Gold Star Award is a slam dunk. Congrats!
Far East Eagle - Indian Head $10 Gold Basic Set, Proof (1908-1915)
Far East Eagle’s set of Proof $10 Indians made it debut six years ago in the Registry. Complete, with a set rating of 65.53, it is already the current finest known set extant and after a string of Blue Star awards, we’re awarding a Gold Star this year for a job well done.

With former sets like Simpson (which went platinum in 2014) or Dr. Duckor’s set (which was sold several years ago) attaining a world class set is no easy task. But last year the Fox Collection took the Blue Star award for this competitive category and with his present set rating of 65.88, we feel it is deserving of its first Gold Star Award for 2018. J & L 144 Complete Set - Silver Commemoratives 144 Piece Mintmark & Variety Set, Circulation Strikes (1892-1954)
J&L’s complete 144-piece set of Classic Commemoratives has captured the No. 1 rank in the All-Time Finest set for the third year in a row! With over 28 absolute finest knowns, and an astonishing 85 or so coins tied for that honor, we are quite simply blown away by the quality and beauty of this set. It was easier to count the coins that could be improved! A mere 31 out of 144 could qualify. A third Gold Star Award for this most deserving set.
Best Modern Sets of 2018
Mitchell J. Spivack (Wondercoin) - Top 100 Modern Coins
This set has some of the best if not the best coins in the modern era. There are a number of coins in this set that many collectors have dreamed of such as the 1969-S Double Die Lincoln Cent, the No S Proof coins, the Cheerios Dollar, the Wisconsin Extra leaf quarters, the mysterious 1964 Special Mint Sets and numerous popular Doubled Die coins. This set is one of the most exciting sets, if not the most exiting set, that a collector can build in the modern era category. Although the completion factor is the same as when the set was awarded gold in 2016, the GPA has improved to 69.64, triggering a fifth gold award. All of the “missing” coins are unobtainable, such as the 1964-D Peace Dollar, the 1974 Aluminum Cent or the 2000-W Sacagawea Quarter in 22K gold, so the set is to all intents, complete!
High Desert - Modern Type Set, Circulation Strikes (1950-present)
This is the fifth gold in a row for the High Desert collection. The collector has obtained some very difficult coins in almost impossible grades such as a circulation strike 1956 Washington Quarter in MS68 condition. Two more unique Top Pops include a 1952-D 10C MS68FB and 1958 50C MS67+FL. In fact, only seven coins in this set can be upgraded. Impressive.
Goldminer's Collection - U.S. Gold Complete Modern Set, Circulation Strikes and Proof (1980-present)
What a great way to build a set of some very scarce Gold Medals and Commemoratives that honor special events or significant individuals. Most of the coins in Goldminer’s Collection are graded perfect MS70 condition with no room for improvement. This is the fifth gold award for this outstanding collection.
Goldminer's Collection - U.S. Silver Complete Modern Set, Circulation Strikes and Proof (1971-present)
Even though the U.S. Mint ended its use of silver for circulating coinage in 1970, that hasn’t meant an end to the issuance of silver coins. Since 1971, we show there have been 523 mint issues struck using some silver. Goldminer has managed to assemble them all, with a Set Rating of 70.80. Some 98% of the coins in this set are Top Pops, and we are quite impressed that a set of this size and scope has achieved such a lofty Rating. A well-earned Gold Star Award to be sure.
Atlantic Collection - Silver, Gold, Platinum & Palladium Eagles Complete Set, Circulation Strikes (1986-present)
The owner of Atlantic Collection has continued to upgrade his set. It now has a set rating of 70.837, improved from last year. 258 coins are currently required in the set, 245 of them are Top Pop. The second gold award for the Atlantic Collection is well deserved.
The Hot Chick Collection - Collectors Mint Set, Circulation Strikes (1970-2000)
Hot Chick has done a great job in building a nice array of coins from Special Mint Sets. Many individuals sometimes wonder why they can’t find a 1970-D Kennedy half in circulation. That’s because they were only issued in these Special Mint Sets so finding any example in high grades is almost impossible unless you go through many sets. This set has 8 Top Pop coins with no coin in the set graded less than 66. Our kudos on a fifth consecutive Gold award.
D.L. Hansen Collection - Jefferson Nickels with Major Varieties, Proof (1938-present)

While Mr. Hansen has now been inducted into the Hall of Fame for his circulation coins, he also has some impressive proof issues as well. This year he surpassed the ErasmuHall set which was a gold winner in 2017. The Hansen set has a set rating of 70.49. Why? Because many of the coins in the set are Top Pops including a beautifully toned 1939 Reverse of 1940 in PR68, the finest graded.
Buddy Byers (The Buckeye Collection) - Jefferson Nickels Basic Set, Proof (1938-1964)
Buckeye remains on top for the fifth year in a row. With a weighted GPA of 69.86 (an improvement from last year) and nearly 62% of the coins in the set deep cameo, this set remains very tough to beat. At this rate, the Buckeye Collection is bound for platinum in 2019.
BELLE - Roosevelt Dimes Basic Set, Proof (1950-present)
While a Proof Roosevelt Dime set may not be the most difficult to set to complete, doing so with a Set Rating over 71 is a whole different ballgame. Belle has managed to gather some of the finest examples on the market, including many Top Pops. 94.79% are Deep Cameo. Impressive. Congratulations on the third gold award in a row.
The Diehl Washington Quarter Collection - Washington Quarters Complete Variety Set with all Die Varieties, Circulation Strikes and Satin Finish (1999-Present)

There’s some very tough competition in this category but at the time of the deadline, the Diehl collection was sitting on top again, winning a third gold award. His first was achieved in 2015. The set is filled with Top Pops and has 16 coins that are the single finest graded, six more than last year! Congratulations!
admiraladm - Washington Quarters Complete Variety Set, Proof (1999-present)
The admiraladm set is very impressive as every coin is PR70 Deep Cameo both in Clad and Silver, except for the 2005-S Minnesota Silver DDR-010! The owner of this set makes it look very easy to build a such a uniform set but we know how much hard work and effort has gone into this. Thanks for sharing this set for all of us to see and your fourth gold in a row.
LOR - Franklin Half Dollars FBL Basic Set, Circulation Strikes (1948-1963)

One look at this set and you can see why it has remained on top for three years in a row. There are so many unique Top Pops in this set that it makes this set nearly unbeatable. The set has bested the HOF JFS set and two award winning retired sets, EWP and GRFN. The finest possible set rating for this set is 70.45. LOR sits at 70.35. All we can say is, “WOW!”

Golden Gate FS Franklins - Franklin Half Dollars FBL Complete Variety Set, Circulation Strikes (1948-1963)
The Franklin Half Dollar series has many varieties that make the set challenging, yet really fun to collect. Some varieties are very scarce especially in high grades. This set is 100% complete and some of the varieties are Pop 1 with none being finer. There are some serious collectors with complete sets in this category, but Golden Gate has held that number one spot for four years in a row.
Whitlock Collection - Kennedy Half Dollars with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes and Proof (1964-Present)

At the time of the awards deadline, Whitlock’s set was tied with the Platinum level Acadia Collection. Currently, due to an upgrade, the set is now .10 points ahead. It’s filled with a number of single finest graded examples and too many Top Pops to list, And, though it seems impossible, the set has seen improvement during the past year. Great job!
GDaD Ikes - Eisenhower Dollars Basic Set, Circulation Strikes (1971-1978)
After the Sonoron Monsoon set retired in December, 2015, GDaD Ikes took over the number one spot, and not only that, bested the Monsoon set rating to land in the coveted #1 All-Time Finest slot. The set remains on top for the third year in a row. This beautiful collection is filled Top Pops and a stunning 1974 MS67, the single finest graded! Nice.

The Richland Ikes - Eisenhower Dollars with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes and Proof (1971-1978)
Way back in 2011, this set won gold. And, while it won a “Best of the Registry” nod in 2017 for being in the number one slot, it was this year that the set caught the judges’ attention once again. Two coins in the set are the single finest graded: 1976 Type 1 MS66+ and 1976-D Type 2 MS67+. The set rating is 67.64, making it very hard to beat.
Sonoran Monsoon - Sacagawea Dollars with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes and Proof (2000-present)

Over the past year this collector did an exemplary job of upgrading his set. A year ago, the set was incomplete missing just one coin. At the deadline this year, the set was complete with a set rating of 69.16 propelling it into the number one slot. The set composite has new additions each year, so collectors must add both new circulation strikes and proofs in order to compete. Sonoran Monsoon did what he needed to do to win gold.
Subway Tokens - Baseball Hall of Fame $5 HOFer Signature Set, Circulation Strikes (2014)
In 2015, this special little set was nearly perfect. By 2016 the set listed all MS70s! And, with the Top Pop Bonuses, it rates 71.08. You simply cannot get better than that! And, to top it all off, two coins in the set are the single finest graded. Congratulations on the fourth gold award.
The Van Epps Complete Silver Eagle Collection (1986-Present) - Silver Eagles Complete Set with First StrikesTM, Circulation Strikes and Proof (1986-Present)
Some collectors love those first strikes and the Van Epp set is a perfect example. The finest possible set rating is 71. This set rates 70.91, besting the #2 set and the rest of a very competitive field. At this point, only four coins can be improved in the set. Let’s see what happens next year.
Best Mint, Proof and Year Sets of 2018
ErasmusHall - 1936-Present Mint Set
Now requiring 1,244 coins, completion of this set is a collecting accomplishment few can match. This is not to mention that the set now boasts a set rating of 68.14, an impressive jump from last year. ErasmusHall has proven to be a dedicated collector with an eye for condition. With many coins imaged, you’ll do yourself a favor by browsing through this amazing collection. 2018 marks the fourth consecutive gold award for this set.
Merion Collection - 1906 Mint Set with Gold

Here is a really nice Mint Set, containing 24 coins, 11 of them gold! Most of the copper, nickel, silver and small gold coins are in the 65-67 range, while most of the larger gold averages MS 63-64. The set rating of 65.06 says it all. Almost all the coins display great original toning. Overall, a great-looking set and a proud recipient of a fourth Gold Star for 2018.
Monte Weiner (MW12) - 1865 Mint Set with Gold)
Any mid-19th century Mint Set can be a bit challenging, but when you include the gold, it becomes a lot challenging. MW12 has assembled a complete 1865 set with gold and achieved a set rating of over 61 – no mean feat when you consider that the Quarter Eagles, Half Eagles and Eagles are almost unknown in Mint State! Our congratulations on a great set and a back-to-back Gold Star award.
High Desert - 1793 Mint Set
Yes, it’s a small set with only four coins. But what four coins! The 1793 Half Cent, and the Chain, Wreath and Cap cents of 1793. All three of the Cents are finest knowns. Most collectors would consider any one of these coins, in nearly any grade, as a centerpiece of their collection. Here is a set of all four with a GPA of 66.62! A GPA over 66 for a 1793 Mint set? Yup. Second place trails by over seven points! Talk about incredible… a most deserving fourth Gold Star.
ErasmusHall - 1936-Present Proof Set
Part of what the judges look for is improvement in a set. A year ago, this set had a rating of 69.61 with a 99.85% completion factor. A year later, the set was complete with 695 coins registered and, at the deadline, had a rating of 69.86. Today, the rating is 69.87! The last gold award won by this set was in 2013. In 2018, gold is well deserved once again.
The Big Stone Collection - 1936-1942 Proof Set
The early modern Proof sets of 1936-1942 are notable for their inclusion of Buffalo Nickels (1936-37), Mercury Dimes and Walkers. While none of the coins individually are extremely rare, assembling the complete 38-piece set with a set rating of 68.33 takes patience (and some money!). Competition in this category is tough as well, with some exceptionally high-grade sets on the All-Time Finest list. But the Big Stone Collection, in its inaugural year in 2017, beat them all. It still reigns for 2018!
Mountain Home Collection - 1880 Proof Set with Gold
Mountain Home’s 1880 Proof Set with Gold is not only complete, but attains a phenomenal set rating just shy of 67! Only 36 gold sets proof sets were minted this year making completion of this set difficult per se. When you attain top quality, it gets even tougher. Our congratulations on a first Gold Star Award.

Alamo Collection - Early American Coins and Tokens Basic Design Set (1616-1820)
The Alamo Collection contains high-grade examples of virtually every Colonial type. The weighted GPA of 57.50 means that most of the coins are Mint State, which is quite an accomplishment any time Colonial coins are involved. While two coins are still required for completion, the quality of this set is quite impressive. A seventh consecutive award, and a sixth Gold for an outstanding group of tough coins.
Aloha Colorado - Hawaii with Tokens, Circulation Strikes (1847-1891)
Hawaiian tokens are extremely popular and very rare. Of the 25 listed tokens, this set has all but one. We know the owner of this set is an aggressive buyer and upgrader, so we look forward to what the future brings.
Bill Berenia (High End Basic Set) - Philippines Complete Basic Set, Circulation Strikes (1903-1945)
This is a monster set of 144 coins. This is the first and only complete set in its category thus far. Over the Last year, the Weighted GPA improved ever-so-slightly to 63.08 (it’s hard to upgrade when you’re at this level). There are plenty of tough coins in this set, but the 1906-S 1 Peso is a real standout. Our congratulations on a fourth consecutive Gold Star.
Sixth Army Collection - Philippines Complete Classic Set, Circulation Strikes (1903-1945)
The coins of the U.S. Philippines enjoy a broad, enthusiastic collector base. The Sixth Army set is one of two complete collections in this category, but this one is slightly better with a weighted GPA of 64.48. What makes this set extra special is the large number of Top Pop coins. This is the fifth consecutive Gold Star award for this fine set.
Simpson - Gobrecht Dollar Patterns Redbook Set (1836-1839)
The Gobrecht Dollar Patterns of the late 1830s are among the most interesting and desirable of the silver issues of the mid 19th century. All are very rare, and completing the set is an achievement in itself. Doing it with three finest known’s and a Set Rating of 65.536 is nothing short of amazing. Chesapeake Collection - Walking Liberty Half Dollars, Low Ball (1916-1947)
Winning gold seems to be the trend for this Low Ball set of Walkers which took top honors in 2015, 2016 and 2017. This set first appeared in March, 2014 and has steadily lowered its GPA. The collector has treated us with a digital album of some of the lowest Walkers ever graded. The set is filled with coins that are the single lowest graded. Great job!

AU_Hobby - Morgan Dollars with Major Varieties, Low Ball (1878-1921)
With the retirement of the Déjà vu Jr. set in July, 2016, the AU_Hobby set became the #1 ranked current finest. It is worthy of recognition because it’s GPA with Top Pop Bonuses is 1.86. There are so many Top Pops in the set and the 1883-S PO1 and the 1889-S PO1 and the single lowest graded! Congratulations on your first gold award.
Johnny Goldsmith (Pocket Change) - Morgan Dollar Top 100 Vam Set, Low Ball (1878-1921)
We see a trend here. For the fifth year in a row, Pocket Change has impressed us by lowering his GPA even more. His set now has an amazing 42 Top Pops which are the single lowest graded. His set far surpasses the other registered sets in this category. Great job!

Nice! Nice! Nice! Every coin is an AU58 with a few pluses scattered throughout. The set boasts now boasts 11 of the single finest AU58+s graded, eight more than last year! The set rating of 59.13 pretty much says it all. Since winning gold in 2014, this collector has continued to improve his set and now boasts a total of five consecutive Gold Star Swards.
George's Legacy - Everyman Liberty Nickels (1883-1912)
In 2016, this set one a “Best of the Registry” icon for being number one. Last year the set was surpassed. But this year the set has rebounded, and with a set rating of 59.24 comes very close to the finest possible rating of 59.55. Six of the coins are the single finest AU58+. Congratulations on winning your first gold award!

J. Dennis Kozimer (KozMc Mercs) - Everyman Mercury Dimes (1916-1945)
KozMc has continued to upgrade this set. Last year it had a rating of 58.96. Today the rating is 59.06, as close as you can get to perfect. Seven coins are the single finest AU58+s. This set far surpasses the rest of the field. Continuing to dominate, the set wins a Gold award for the fifth year in a row.
Tom Sears MD (Bustnut) - Everyman Capped Bust Half Dollars (1807-1839)
AU58s and AU58+s complete this wonderful set. Starting the set in early 2013, the set has remained on top ever since. Now, with five consecutive Golds, the set is very close to achieving the finest grade possible. 59.62 is the finest you can get. Tom’s set is rated 59.17.

In this very competitive category, and with 9 sets complete, it is hard to stay on top. But cornhusker improved his set steadily and landed in the coveted number one spot two years ago, surpassing the SurfCity set which won gold in 2015. There is good reason why this set deserves gold; 23 coins in the set are the single finest AU58+! A great set in a very competitive category.

Sunshine State Silver Dollars - Everyman Trade Dollars (1873-1878)
We love this set. Three of the coins are the finest graded AU58+ and only three coins can be improved. This collector won a “Best of the Registry” nod in 2015 and won gold in 2016 and 2017. He has been very diligent about upgrading his set so his third gold is well deserved.
johnk1942 (3) - Everyman Morgan Dollars (1878-1921)
John still dominates in this category, besting the number one retired set, the Hoosier Collection, by nearly 2 points. And, the set continues to improve, if that’s possible. At the deadline last year, its GPA was 58.48, now it sits at 58.64. Great job at building what’s soon to be the best possible set ever.
Noledog Peace - Everyman Peace Dollars (1921-1935)
This set is not new to the category. It was first published in January, 2017. It won a “Best of the Registry” nod for the 2017 awards and then over the next year, gradually improved its score. At the awards deadline, it had a 59.15 rating, surpassing “Brad’s” retired set. Three of the coins in the set are the single finest graded AU58+s. And get this…Noledog has four more complete Peace dollar sets!

Virginia Transplant (thush) - Angola Portuguese Colony Denomination Type Set, Circulation Strikes (1921-1974)
Until 1975, Angola was once a Portuguese colony on the western coast of southern Africa. This set includes one example of every denomination issued between 1921 and 1974. The majority of the Thush Collection are either Top Pop coins or unique Top Pops.
Richard K. LeVan (EML Collection) - Congo (The Republic) Gold, Proof (1965)
This set of Congolese gold coins includes all of the low-mintage coins from 1965. Reportedly, 70% of the original mintage was melted down, leaving very few examples for collectors. It’s a tough set with very little room for improvement.
Virginia Transplant (thush) - Ghana Standard Coinage, Proof (1958)
This set has been complete since it was first published in 2015. Five of the seven coins in the set are Top Pops. The 1958 PR65 sixpence and the 1958 PR67 10 Shillings are the single finest grading making this set nearly impossible to top. Congratulations on your fourth award, this being the first gold.

Before it became Zimbabwe, Rhodesia issued a series of coins based on a dual monetary system (British Pound and decimal Dollar). Most of the coins are very common, but the quality of this set is superb and includes a bulk of Unique Top Pop coins.

LB'S Hoard RSA - South African 1 Ounce (100 Rand) Gold Natura, Proof (1994-Present)
A wonderful set for the wildlife lover, as each coin features a different animal. This is an expensive set because of the high intrinsic value that each coin possesses, thus very few collectors attempt this set. Kudos to LB for building this remarkable set and we hope they will continue as new coins are issued.
Cannonball! - Southern Rhodesia Penny, Circulation Strikes (1934-1954)
This is a remarkably tough set of coins from the country now known as Zimbabwe. It just goes to show what dedication and persistence can accomplish because here is a set that is 100% complete and even includes the key date 1954 Penny – and the Weighted GPA is 63.897.

sportsnutsf - British Hong Kong 1000 Dollars Gold, Proof (1975-1986)
This is a complete set of the $1,000 gold coins issued by Hong Kong from 1975 to 1987. Each of the coins celebrates an animal associated with the Chinese New Year, plus two Royal Visit coins in 1975 and 1986. There are over 6.5 ounces of pure gold in this set.
孙克勤 Sun Keqin (Sun) - People's Republic of China Old Three Flowers, Proof (1991-2000)
These coins are Proof versions of the regular circulating commemoratives of this era. This set of coins was the first to achieve 100% completion. This is the fourth annual Gold award for this set.
孙克勤 Sun Keqin (Sun) - People's Republic of China Commemoratives Complete Set, Circulation Strikes (1984-Present)
Between 1991 and 2000, the People’s Republic of China issued 1 Jiao, 5 Jiao and 1 Yuan coins with lovely floral designs. Until the mid-1990’s, the mintages of the Proof sets was very low – usually from 1,000 to 2,500 sets. To complete this collection, many Proof sets were broken up just to get the individual pieces, most of which are presented here as unique Top Pops.
孙克勤 Sun Keqin (Sun) - People's Republic of China Commemoratives Complete Set, Proof (1984-Present)
Specimen coins of this era were specially marked coins made primarily for sale to collectors. They are far less common than the normal commemorative coins, but not nearly as rare as Proofs. Collecting them all is a difficult endeavor. This was the first set registered in this category, the first to achieve 100% completion, and it is replete with Top Pop coins, some unique.

Beginning in 1984 and continuing to the present day, the People’s Republic of China issued circulating commemorative coins to celebrate dates, events, people and places that are significant in Chinese culture. These were very popular coins with both public citizens and coin collectors. This is the fourth annual Gold award for this set.
DMR Collection - Panda Silver 10 Yuan (1 oz) with Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1989-2015)

This extremely popular collection of silver 1 Yuan Pandas requires 91 coins. At the top of the hill stands the DMR Collection with 100% completion and a weighted GPA of 69.495. Many of the coins are MS70’s and Top Pops, and we suspect that this set will only improve with time.
YY 江南两角 - China Kiangnan Province 20C, Circulation Strikes (1898-1911)
This is a nice set of classic Provincial Chinese coins. It is only one coin away from completion, but it includes one coin from each year plus varieties. It will be interesting to see what changes take place in this set over the next year.

Virginia Transplant (thush) - China Manchoukuo 5 Fen, Circulation Strikes (1933-1945)
During its occupation of China between 1933 and 1945, Japan issued a variety of coin for use in the regions under its control. The 5 Fen series includes a variety of metallic alloys such as copper-nickel and even red fiber. With one more coin, this set will be complete. In the last year, the weighted GPA of this set has held strong at 61.10.
Anil Gupta (anilgupta) - India Colonial British Denomination Type Set (1835-1947)

India is an emerging hot market, especially for the British Colonial coins. This set is particularly tough because most of the coins are from the 1800s and they are difficult to locate in top grades. In the last year, this set has improved from a weighted GPA of 64.00 to 64.33.

RW Israel Type - Israel Pruta Denomination Type Set, Circulation Strikes (1949-1957)
In 1949, the new nation of Israel issued its first coins. This is a small but tough set, and this is the first to achieve 100% completion. The Weighted GPA is 66.67, which is remarkable considering that the finest possible set rating is 67.111.
Steve Young (Honeyco Collection) - Japanese Sunburst 10 Sen, Circulation Strikes (1907-1917)
This set is the best of two in the category, both with 100% completion, this one being slightly nicer. There appears to be some opportunity for upgrading, thus it will be interesting to see if this set gets even better next year. Great job!

The Japanese Yen of this era is a large, impressive silver coin that circulated widely and is difficult to locate in top condition. This set is 100% complete and has a weighted GPA of 59.61. This is the fifth annual Gold award for this set.
Hetman - Kazakhstan Silver 100 Tenge, Proof (1995-present)
Hetman has done an outstanding job of gathering all of the silver 100 Tenge commemorative coins issued by Kazakhstan, then keeping it up to date. Every coin in this 100% complete set is a Top Pop, and the vast majority are unique Top Pops.
Hetman - Kyrgyzstan 1 Som, Prooflike (2008-present)
All but one of the coins in this set is a Top Pop. This set contains one each of all the large, silver commemoratives issued by this former Soviet Union state.
Joao de Brito Augusto - Macau Pataca, Circulation Strikes (1952-1985)
Macau, a former Portuguese colony attached to the southern border of mainland China, began issuing coins in 1952. This collection includes all of the One Pataca coins issued by Macau from 1952 to 1985 and it includes the major varieties of 1982 and 1983.

This set is the only one in its category but we recognize it for its 100% completion, its size (41 coins) and its quality (weighted GPA of 67.75). This one took a lot of work to complete and we honor that effort.

This is a large set consisting of 65 coins. Many of these coins are difficult to locate, especially in nice condition. There are some great coins in this set, including quite a few unique Top Pops. 100% complete, with a weighted GPA of 60.90.
Best European Sets of 2018
TicklesCat - Austrian Silver Vienna Philharmonic 1.5 Euro, Circulation Strikes (2008-present)
A nice collection of these odd-denomination silver pieces, all celebrating the Vienna Philharmonic. Each coin in this set is MS69 or better. It is a continuing set, so we’ll be sure to revisit it next year to see if the latest issue has been added.
GDH (GDH 1/10 oz Gold Philharmonic 2002 - Date) - Austrian Gold Vienna Philharmonic 10 Euro, Circulation Strikes (2002-present)
A nice, complete set of these lovely gold coins honoring the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra (founded in 1842). According to the owner, the majority of the coins in this set were submitted raw and became immediate, unique Top Pops.
Geonaute - French 10 Centimes, Circulation Strikes (1914-1946)
This is a great set of the holed 10 Centimes issued by France over a thirty-two year period encompassing two World Wars and the intervening peace. The quality of this set is simply superb and it is 100% complete. We’re happy to report that this set has been upgraded over the past year, moving from a Weighted GPA of 66.61 to 66.757. While most of the coins are common, we can only imagine the time and effort that went into building this set.
Typetone - French 50 Centimes, Circulation Strikes (1897-1920)
The 50 Centimes is a small silver coin that received little attention from collectors when it circulated. This collection is relatively easy to assemble, but difficult to find in top condition. Once again, the owner has improved the quality of this set, raising the weighted GPA from 64.85 to 65.03.
Typetone - French Franc, Circulation Strikes (1898-1920)
This set incorporates the former Delhaye Collection into a 100% complete grouping of French 1 Francs from 1898 to 1920. Loaded with Top Pop coins, this set is 100% complete and has a weighted GPA of 66.04.
Ribiere Pascal (kwayoo) - French Centime, Circulation Strikes (1962-2001)
This is a very interesting set that starts out with a bunch of common coins, then becomes progressively more rare as the mintages drop from a high of over 52 million to a low of 2,500. Some years are only available in sets. The key date 1991 is here (with medallic rotation), as is every other date. Congratulations to Kwayoo for finally completing this set in the last year with a Weighted GPA of 65.70.
jhd2000 - French 5 Francs, Circulation Strikes (1970-2001)
The coins in this set feature the Semeuse (Sower), the French equivalent of our Waling Liberty. This is the first 100% complete collection in the category and the quality is excellent (Weighted GPA of 66.88). This is the first Gold award for this set.
Virginia Transplant (thush) - French Indo-China Colony Cent, Circulation Strikes (1885-1943)
This is a most impressive set that is not only large, but difficult to complete. This set is 100% complete with a weighted GPA of 63.71 (a small improvement in the last year). This set is full of Top Pops and a fair number of unique Top Pops.
Larry Gray (1) - German States 3 Mark Type Set, Circulation Strikes (1908-1918)
Mr. Gray’s is the only 100% complete set in this category, with no one else coming anywhere close. He has been working on this set for years and continues to upgrade whenever possible. This year, the weighted GPA stands at 66.188. Check out his great TrueView™ images.
Larry Gray - German States 3 Mark One From Each State, Proof (1908-1918)
A very impressive accomplishment of 100% completion with a weighted GPA of 67.90. This set is loaded with Top Pops (some unique) and it includes an array of superb-quality Cameo and Deep Cameo Proofs.

This 100% complete set includes Proof examples of every date and mintmark of the unusual 25 Pfennig denomination. The mintage figures for most of these coins remain unknown, but all are extremely rare. The Sheffield Collection XII - German 1/2 Mark Date Set, Circulation Strikes (1905-1919)
Sometimes common coins can be the most challenging to find in top condition. Such is the case here. The owner has been working on this set since 2009 and has taken it to 100% completion and a Weighted GPA of 66.882. The set contains six Top Pops and three unique Top Pops. Keep up the good work!

The reunification of East and West Germany closed this set in 1990, but did nothing to quell the enthusiasm for East Germany’s coins. This set contains 100% of the necessary 42 coins, all in exceptional quality. We expect this particular set to improve over time, as we know the owner to be an aggressive grader.

After World War II, Germans focused on getting their lives back together and rebuilding their country. As a result, they spent little time on coin collecting, especially on the common coins they used every day. As a result, it is very difficult to locate high-grade examples of these 5 Marks prior to 1965. This remains the only 100% complete set in the category and it comes with an improved weighted GPA of 64.21.
CoinKing - German 5 Mark Commemoratives, Proof (1952-1986)
This set includes all of the 43 commemorative 5 Marks issued by Germany from 1952-1986 and it is the only 100% complete set in the category. This set was displayed at the June 2013 Long Beach show and the August 2013 ANA convention. 100% complete with a weighted GPA of 68.256 (and constantly being upgraded).).
Caranett - British Edward VII Sovereign Complete Mintmark Set, Circulation Strikes (1902-1910)
A fabulous, multi-country set of arguably the most ubiquitous gold coin of the 20th century. Just completing this set is quite an accomplishment (think of the intrinsic value alone of 38 coins, each containing almost a quarter of an ounce of gold). There is one other 100% complete collection within this category, but the Caranett set beats it with an improved weighted GPA of 63.51.
CB Gold Collection - British George V Sovereign Complete Mintmark Set, Circulation Strikes (1911-1932)
Wow! This set contains all of the gold Sovereigns issued during the reign of George V, not just from Great Britain, but from Canada…and Australia…and South Africa. The first thing that pops into our mind is the intrinsic value of the gold in 83 different Sovereigns. Now 96.39% complete with a weighted GPA of 63.96.
Threadgold Collection - British Elizabeth II Sovereign Date Set, Circulation Strikes (1957-present)
This is a fairly large set that requires constant attention because of the new issue that comes out each year. This set rose to 100% completion in the last year, with an improved Weighted GPA of 65.657. Some of the coins are unique, Top Pops!
wybrit - British Victoria Farthing Date Set, Circulation Strikes (1838-1901)
This mind-blowing set contains a farthing from every one of the years in which they were issued during Queen Victoria’s lengthy reign. That’s sixty coins right there. On top of that, the weighted GPA is an impressive 65.257 (an improvement over last year’s rating). On top of that, 25% of the coins are full Red!
Paul Menzies Ltd. - British Elizabeth II Gold Five Pound Date Set, Proof (1990-present)
This collection earned a “Best New Set” award two years ago because of its quality and the tremendous intrinsic value (over 25 ounces of pure gold when the set is complete). These are all great, tiny mintage coins.
The London Coin Company Ltd. - British Elizabeth II 2 Pounds Silver Britannia Date Set, Proof (1997-present)
The Britannia series of coins is very popular with collectors. This set of Proofs includes one coin from each year of issue, all in superb condition. All but three of the coins are Top Pops and many are PR70DCAMS.
Hermes - Greece Lepton Basic Set, Circulation Strikes (1828-1879)
This is a fabulous set of coins, many of which are condition-rarities. Hermes keeps the set private, so we can’t see the makeup of the individual coins, but at 100% completion and a Weighted GPA of 63.06, we are sure that there are some amazing coins therein. From a sheer numismatic standpoint, this collection is remarkable.
Hermes - Greece 5 Lepta Basic Set, Circulation Strikes (1828-1971)
A tremendous collecting accomplishment that includes copper coins from the 1800’s in Mint State. This set would be extremely difficult to replicate, let alone with its GPA of 59.875 (a slight improvement over the last year).
Hermes - Greece 10 Lepta Basic Set, Circulation Strikes (1828-1973)
As with his 5 Lepta set, Hermes has accomplished an amazing feat. 100% completion with an improved weighted GPA of 63.697.
Eoin - Irish 3 Pence Date Set, Circulation Strikes (1928-1968)
Eoin has two sets in this category: one is the finest with a completion rating of 100%; the other is second best at 77.27% completion and a respectable Weighted GPA of 61.02. These are tiny coins, but there are some toughies hidden among them, and one needs 22 coins to complete this set.

This is the better of two sets of Irish Sixpence that Eoin has posted on the PCGS Set Registry. Both are high quality, but this one is 100% complete and the average grade is better than MS64.
Eoin - Irish Shilling Date Set, Circulation Strikes (1928-1968)
This set is a load of bull. No, really, every coin features a bull on the reverse. This set has room for improvement as far as some of the grades are concerned, but we’re impressed by the fact that it is 100% complete and that it contains the very rare 1937 Shilling.
Caranett - Netherlands 10 Gulden, Circulation Strikes (1875-1889)
Caranett has several award-winning sets of world gold coins. This set is also top-notch, 100% complete, and full of Top Pop coins (in fact, only two coins are not a Top Pop, and another is a unique Top Pop).
Jorge Tierno - Spain 25 Pesetas, Circulation Strikes (1876-1885)
This complete set of gold Spanish 25 Pesetas boasts a Weighted GPA of 63.478 (recorded here to compare with next year’s rating to see what improvements have been made). This is the first Gold award for this set.
Anteater Collection - Swiss 20 Gold Francs Complete Set, Circulation Strikes (1883-1949)

Swiss 20 Francs are among the most attractive world gold coins, each with a female representation of Helvetia on the obverse. This 40-coin set is 100% complete (the 1887-B and 1896-B rarities are optional) and the quality is an impressive weighted GPA of 64.273.
Tryzub - Ukraine Commemoratives Complete Set Standard Coinage (1995-1996)

The denominations of the coins in this set range from 200,000 to 2 Million Karbovantsivs. Sounds impressive, but the Karbovantsis was replaced by the Hyrvyni in 1996 at a rate of 100,000 to 1. The coins themselves are lovely, hard to find, and the fact that this set is 100% complete is a testament to the owner’s persistence.

jhd2000 - Bahamas 2 Dollars, Circulation Strikes and Proof (1966-1981)
Those of you who have pink flamingo ornaments in their front yard (doesn’t everybody) will love this series because each coin has facing flamingoes on the reverse. It takes 26 coins to complete this set, which jhd2000 has done while achieving a Weighted GPA of 67.52.
Lantern Collection - Canadian Coins Complete Set with Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1953 to date)

Queen Elizabeth takes front-and-center with this set, as it includes all of the types of coins issued under her reign (544 coins comprise this set). Mega-collector Lantern has accomplished 92.10% completion with a weighted GPA of 65.94. Think about the time and effort that went into the building of this set, the cost, and the constant upgrading. To say we’re impressed is an understatement.
Lantern Collection - Canadian Coins Complete Set with Varieties, Proof-Likes (1949 to date)
This massive set (456 coins) is a true collector’s paradise. The only source of many of the coins in this set was the Prooflike sets issued each year by the Canadian government. Imagine how many of those sets had to be broken up to complete this set, then even more sets were dis-assembled for upgrades. The Lantern Collection is only 92.79% complete, but it is far ahead of any competitor.
Lantern Collection - Canadian Complete Cents Basic Set, Circulation Strikes (1858-2012)
Few people attempt this collection because of its sheer size (144 coins), but the owner of this set has obtained every one of the requisite coins. Not only that, the weighted GPA is an amazing 67.08.
The Canadian Beaver Hunter Collection - Canadian Nickel Five Cents with Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1922 to date)
This set includes all of the Nickel Five-Cent pieces issued by Canada from 1922 to date, including all of the major varieties. This set is loaded with Top Pop coins, many of which are Unique Top Pops. This is a big set, too, with 122 coins required.

Per the owner, this is the first complete set of Victoria Ten Cents with varieties and it took over ten years to complete [ed. note: this is the ONLY complete set in this category]. The set is replete with rarities in various grades and chock full of great “name” pedigrees.

Gene B. Collection - Canadian Silver Commemorative Fifty Cents, Proof (1995 to date)
This is a visually impressive set of 82 coins, all of which are silver commemorative Half Dollars issued by Canada. A wide range of topics are covered here: animals; sports; events; and locations. All of the coins, except one, are PR69 or better and the vast majority of the coins are Deep Cameos.

This is another of those mega-sets which, in this case, requires 139 coins to be complete, including every date in every denomination from the Cent to the $2 gold piece. This is the fourth Gold award for this collection, which is now #1 in the category. It is now 99.28% complete with a weighted GPA of 64.57.
Fernando A. Baez Guerrero - Dominican Republic Complete Set, Circulation Strikes (1937-Present)
This is a great yeoman effort at attempting this oversized set that covers the complete Dominican Republic coinage in all dates and denominations from 1937 to date. Many of the coins in this set are unique Top Pops. This year, the completion level remained at 98.99% but the weighted GPA improved slightly to 65.40.
Fernando A. Baez Guerrero - Haitian Silver 100 Gourdes, Proof (1977-1981)
This is a small set of seven attractive, completely different designs. Here, the set is 100% complete and the Weighted GPA is an impressive 67.00.
RFS Industries - Mexican Ferdinand VII (Draped Bust) 8 Reales, Circulation Strikes (1811-1821)
This classic, Mexican set includes 8 Reales issued under the reign of Ferdinand VII. Amazingly, this set is 100% complete and the lowest grade is XF40 (the 1814/3 overdate, of course). What a great set.
Charles A. McVey (Charlie's Silver Pesos) - Mexican Silver Peso Date Set, Circulation Strikes (1866-1945)
As the counterpart of the U.S. Dollar, the Mexican Silver Peso of the late 1800’s was (and is) a popular collectible. Charlie’s set entered the arena with forty out of the required forty-one coins and, two years ago, the set was finally completed. This time around, the Weighted GPA is 58.537, meaning there are some nice Mint State pieces mixed with some high-end AU’s.
J.D. Foster Collection (libertycoin) - Mexican Gold 50 Pesos with Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1921-1947)

These large, heavy gold coins have always made an impressive collection. Here they are in all their bright glory. 100% complete, with a weighted GPA of 65.35. Most of the later dates are Top Pops and the 1930 is a unique Top Pop. Good job.
Gabriel Bellman (Blazer Rip City Libertads!) - Mexican 1/4 Onza Silver, Proof (1992-present)
Each year, this set gets bigger as a new coin is added. That has not stopped this stalwart collector, who retains the coveted number one standing and 100% completion. Approximately half of this collection is a unique Top Pop.
Timothy R. McCormick (trmac60) - Mexican Onza Silver, Circulation Strikes (1982-present)
The “Onza” is considered to be a bullion coin, which is produced more with an eye for quantity than quality. Thus, it is difficult to assemble a top-notch collection. However, trmac has done so and is the first to achieve 100% completion in the category. This set is replete with Top Pops.
santi66 - Panama 10 Balboas, Proof (1978-1999)
The Panamanian 10 Balboas was a short-lived denomination issued sporadically between 1978 and 1999. The Proof version have small mintages (as low as 1,267 in the case of the 1980, thus it is hard to find them period. Finding perfect examples is even more difficult, but this set includes all of them in superb condition.
Antonio Dominguez (romanose05) - Panama 500 Gold Balboas, Proof (1975-1985)
This intrinsically valuable set contains 11 coins, each containing at least half an ounce of gold (and some containing almost 1.2 ounces). What’s unique about this set is that every single coin is a unique Top Pop!

A fantastically rare set of only four coins, each with a mintage of a mere 12 coins. According to the owner, this is the only complete set graded by PCGS.

Timbertop - Australian Pennies Complete Set with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1911-1964)

Anyone who even attempts this set has our respect. This is one of the toughest world sets to complete because of the many rarities. Timbertop remains at 100% completion this year and the weighted GPA rose from 62.38 to 62.771. Nicely done!.

This is another tremendous Timbertop effort. The early dates in the Shilling series are tough, tough, tough in high grade, yet here they all are in wonderful Mint State condition. The number of unique Top Pops in this set is dizzying. 100% completion with a weighted GPA of 65.412 and the undisputed champion of the category.
Timbertop - Australian Florin Complete Set with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1910-1963)

In true Timbertop fashion, this set boasts a 100% completion rate, which is rather impressive for a 56-coin set. The quality is superb, too, with the average grade in excess of MS65. There is some close competition in terms of completion; for the first time, one set is challenging for quality.
CB Gold Collection - Australian Complete Sovereign Set with Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1855-1931)
Who attempts a set of 192 gold coins, each containing nearly a quarter of an ounce of gold? When we wrote the generic description for the set several years ago, we noted that no one had achieved a 90% completion level. Now the CB Gold Collection boasts a 93.23% completion level with a weighted GPA of 62.085. The “upgrade” icon indicates to us that this is a work-in-progress and we look forward to next year’s stats.
Timbertop - Australian Five Cents, Proof (1966-present)
This seems to be a set of popular clad coins as evidenced by the large populations that many of them have. 65 coins are required to complete this set, which Timbertop has done with aplomb. This set is brimming with PR70DCAM Top Pops.

This is a great, mid-sized, modern set of Australian $1 coins. 100% complete, now with an improved weighted GPA of 67.944. It contains numerous Top Pop coins, including several unique Top Pops.
emu666 - Australian Twenty Cent Commemoratives, Circulation Strikes (1995-Present)
This is the sixth annual and the third gold award for this modern set of circulating 20 Cent commemoratives. The owner was able to fend off a close competitor again this year, but the scores are within hundredths of a point apart. The drama continues.
BCM Collection - Australian Fifty Cents Commemoratives, Circulation Strikes (1966-Present)
The BCM Collection leapfrogged to the top of this category last year, beating out two Gold award-winning sets that were vying for top position. When 134 coins are required, this is quite an accomplishment. However, the winning margin is very slim and we expect fireworks as the participants fight it out for the top spot.
RidgeLine Coins - Australian Kookaburra Silver Dollars, Circulation Strikes (1992-present)
The Kookaburra is a one-ounce silver coin created for sale to collectors. Each coin has a different view of the iconic Australian bird. This set is comprised of the Proof versions of this coin. There are several sets in this category that are 100% complete, but this owner holds a slight advantage. Good on ya mate!
Cannonball! - Fiji Complete Basic Set, Circulation Strikes (1934-1968)
This set consists of 89 coins produced while Fiji was still under British rule and before their independence in 1970. A few of the coins are quite scarce in Mint State, so we’re impressed that there are two 100% complete sets in this category. Cannonball’s set is the better of the two by almost two points. For comparison next year and for the record, the Weighted GPA of this set is 64.51.
Ian Parsons (Aurum) - New Zealand 1/2 Pennies Complete Set, Circulation Strikes (1940-1965)
The reverse design of the Halfpennies of New Zealand remain consistent for the entire 1940-1965 period. Each featured Hei Tiki, a very ancient symbol of this island nation. The obverse designs changed depending on which British monarch led Britain at the time. In top quality, some of these coins are condition-rarities. Three collectors currently vie for top position in this category, but Aurum has led for the last four years and is now earning a first Gold award.
George G. Fenton (kiwiusa) - New Zealand Pennies Complete Set, Circulation Strikes (1940-1965)
Like the Halfpennies, the large copper Pennies of New Zealand maintained a consistent reverse design throughout the 1940-1965 period. In this case, the reverse featured a Tui bird perched on a branch. The difficulty level for this set is slightly higher than that of the Halfpenny set, with several of the coins being quite rare in high grade. Only two active sets have achieved 100% completion, with the ggfenton set being the leader by a very slight margin. Congratulations for your first Gold award and continue to hang in there!.
James Heegeman (kiwiwally) - New Zealand Threepence Complete Set, Circulation Strikes (1933-1965)
This 100% complete set has been a long-time in the making (see the owner’s notes about where each coin was acquired). There are some very special coins in this set, including several unique Top Pops.

Though not 100% complete (but close), this set deserves an award because of the high quality (weighted GPA of 65.13).

George G. Fenton (kiwiusa) - New Zealand Florin Complete Set, Circulation Strikes (1933-1965)
This 25-coin set is surprisingly difficult to complete in Mint State, especially at the higher levels of preservation. This is the only complete set in the category and it has a remarkable Weighted GPA of 64.70. This set will be tough to beat.
jhd2000 - Palau Dollar Marine Life Protection (1992-present)
Palau is one of the best scuba diving sites in the world, so it is natural that they would produce coins featuring sea life. All of these coins are colorized, so they are stunning in appearance. Of the 50 coins in this complete set, many are unique Top Pops.

Best Multi-Country Sets of 2018
CB Gold Collection - British Commonwealth Sovereigns Complete Set Victoria (Jubilee Head), Circulation Strikes (1887-1893)
The Jubilee Head is a specific design type seen late in Queen Victoria’s reign. The Jubilee head appears on British and Australian gold Sovereigns from 1887 to 1893. This 20-coin set now has a weighted GPA of 63.35.
CB Gold Collection (Cavilier Victoria Gold) - British Commonwealth Sovereigns Complete Set Victoria (Veiled Head ), Circulation Strikes (1893-1901)
The Veiled Head of Victoria appeared on British Sovereigns from 1893 until her death on 1901. It was well-known throughout the British Empire because of the ubiquity of the gold Sovereigns. The coins in this set were issued by Australia and Great Britain at four different mints. This set is made up of 29 different coins. It is fairly easy to complete but the intrinsic value can be daunting. Cavilier lacks one coin to achieve 100% completion, but it is the best set in the category by far.
Brandywine Collection - Coin of the Year by Krause Publications (1982-present)
This is a fun set of 308 highly-regarded coins, each of them recognized as the Coin of The Year by Krause Publications. Though not complete (91.56%), this set is so far ahead of the competition that it deserves special recognition. The owner has done a tremendous job in displaying this set on the Registry – it’s worth a look!
Layb's Euros - Euro Complete Set, Circulation Strikes (2000)
The introduction of the Euro coins in 1999 was one of the most exciting events in numismatics. Layb’s chose the millennial year as the focus for this collection. Only one coin is needed for completion. This is the twelfth award for this set and the first Gold award.
Best New Sets of 2018
Martin Oulton (Cajun Lincoln) - Lincoln Cents Basic Set, Proof (1909-1958)
Martin is not new to the Registry, but his Basic proof set is. 40% of the coins in the set are Top Pops and the set is just a few points behind the multi-gold, multi-platinum, HOF set of Stewart Blay. That’s saying something. Martin’s 1953 PR67+ is the single finest Deep Cameo ever graded and four other issues hold that single finest status as well.
rglerdude - Lincoln Cents Complete Variety Set, Proof (1959-present)
This new set has something every other set in the category doesn’t. It’s the first to be 100% complete! Building a complete variety set is not easy and rglerdude has done an extraordinary job of finding those illusive issues including the finest graded 2009-S Formative Years DDR FS-801. Well done.
D.L. Hansen Collection - Three Cent Silvers with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes and Proof (1851-1872)
Mr. Hansen’s sets have reshaped the Registry over the past two years. And if you’re wondering why, look no further than this lovely set of Trimes. With a rating of 67.85 it blew past the previous champion by more than two and a half points. Over a third of the set is top pop, and nearly all exhibit gorgeous, multicolored original toning. We could have awarded nearly any of Mr. Hansen’s sets this honor.
The Halcyon Collection - Roosevelt Dimes FB Basic Set, Circulation Strikes and Proof (1946-Present)
The Halcyon Roosevelt dime set has only been in the Registry for month, but Wow! The set landed in first place right away with a set rating of 70.61. Crazy good. There many Top Pop examples with 24 being the finest ever graded. Welcome to the winners circle!
RSD - Barber Quarters Basic Set, Circulation Strikes (1892-1916)
Wow. For a new set in a popular category to immediately capture the All Time Finest title is quite an achievement. But with a set rating of 68.31, it wasn’t even close. Falling just .67 points shy of the theoretical maximum rating of 68.98, this set approaches perfection in its first year. Gold Star material to be sure.
Insanity of a Privateer - Franklin Half Dollars Complete Variety Set, Proof (1950-1963)
Here’s another set that burst onto the scene just a month before the awards’ deadline. Are there Top Pops? Of course. Are there single finest coins? Yes, they are there, too. This is a tough set to complete, in fact, there is only one other set with a 100% completion factor. But this set is insanely good.
D.L. Hansen Collection - Eisenhower Dollars Basic Set, Circulation Strikes and Proof (1971-1978)
Hansen’s complete run of Ike dollars surpassed the retired, award winning Sonoran Monsoon set in May, 2018 with a set ranking of 68.69. Only ten coins can be improved and we have no doubt that Mr. Hansen will continue to tick this set up to the finest possible rating of 69.35.
Steve Fenstermacher's - OBSESSION - Silver, Gold, Platinum & Palladium Eagles Complete Set, Circulation Strikes and Proof (1986-present)
Obsession. Yes, you could say that. Starting in September, 2017, this collector appeared to be obsessed with not only completing the 474-coin set, but reaching the top. This rank was achieved in April of this year and since then continued its upward journey to being the best set ever assembled in this category.
M. Young – Dakota Collection - 1897 Proof Set)
Up through last year, Cleo’s 1897 Proof Set seemed to have a secure position at the top with a rating of 67.43. Then the Young-Dakota set appears, with a rating almost two points higher! With a half dollar in PR68+ and a dime in 68, we were impressed enough to award a Gold Star to this one.
alangarytyler - Morgan Dollars Basic Set, Low Ball (1878-1921)
The door was opened with the retirement of the “End of the Trail” XI Hall of Fame set in July, 2016. That set had a 1.08 GPA with Top Pop Bonuses. alangarytyler’s set is 1.09, very close to a tie. His 1882-S and 1894 PO1 are the single finest lowest grade. The rest of the set is filled with Top Pops leaving only six coins that can be improved. Congratulations!
Everyman Barber Dimes - Everyman Barber Dimes (1892-1916)
So, when you top a platinum level set, you really need to be recognized. That’s what the Everyman Barber Dime set did the first time he registered his set in June, 2018. He bested the award winning Beancounter I set by .56 of a point. Only eight coins can be improved. Let’s see what more the owner of this set can show us next!
RareRounds TopPop World’s Finest - Egypt Occupation Coinage Silver Piastres, Circulation Strikes (1916-1920)

CWN (chrisnapolitano) - British Victoria Three Pence Maundy Set, Prooflike (1838-1901)
Until recently, Queen Victoria was the longest-serving monarch of England (Queen Elizabeth II has since taken her place). As such, this is a long series of coins, requiring 64 coins to fill the set. This is the first and only complete set and it has an impressive weighted GPA of 64.19.

Maundy sets are coins given out by the British Monarch each Maundy Thursday (the day before Good Friday) to subjects chosen for their poverty or service. Mintages are always limited and low, thus it is difficult to complete a set of all different dates and denominations. This set is 100% complete, with a Weighted GPA of 65.05.
Richard G. Stevenson III (RGS III) - British Elizabeth II Shillings Basic Set, Circulation Strikes (1953-1966)
This new set includes all of the British 2 Shillings minted under Queen Elizabeth’s reign from 1953 to 1966. This set is larger than normal because it includes coins with either the English or Scottish crests on the reverse.
Romaldkirk Collection - Canadian Elizabeth II Cents with Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1953-2012)
Sometimes newcomers splash onto the scene and steal the limelight from an old, established set (which is the case here). It’s the first set to achieve 100% completion and the Weighted GPA is a remarkable 67.37.
The Great Silver Maple Leafs - Canadian Silver One Ounce Maple Leaf (1988 to date)
This is another new set that blew away the previous leader in the category. This is the first complete set of all 31 required coins. This will require updating each year as new issues are produced, and we look forward to seeing what this set looks like next year.
